Red face How do I deposit this check into my bank account?

I worked for a bit and the check has my English name and then my last name written on it, but my bank account has my Asian first name and then my last name. My cheque and my bank account have the same last name.

How can I deposit this check into my bank account? Do I have to do what is called a blank endorsement? If yes, how do I do that?

Thanks a lot, Linux Questions!

Only your own bank can answer for what they will accept. Call and ask.

Generally, you can just endorse the check on the back using whatever you use for your bank, and deposit it. It's not that big a deal who the check was made payable to, unless the check was stolen. If no one can charge you with theft for depositing the check, don't worry about it. If you are still worried, endorse the check on the back twice - first with the name used in the payee block on front, then as your bank name. It's not uncommon for people to endorse checks to someone else, sometimes several times.

I agree and also that you should just ask your bank. And here's where having a bank with actual branches and real persons matters a bit. I know there are pure Internet based banks ... not a great idea.

I've had better luck with my internet bank than the local bank. I keep a local account so I can easily make cash deposits and withdrawals, but my main bank is mostly on the internet. They do have a brick&mortar location, but it's so far away as to be useless to most of its customers. I've never had a problem with that bank, and it's easy to get help if needed. I don't plan to ever move from it. YMMV.

Obviously, I think that you should go to your local branch, with the check and your government-issued identification, and ask the teller or the branch manager what to do with the check. They can give you, their customer, an authoritative answer on the spot.

Part of this is my point. You're saying that you have a local account to "easily make cash deposits and withdrawals". This is the same thing I'm recommending. To have a local branch where the OP can deal with their unique, to them, concern.

Banks provide a virtually-indistinguishable set of services ... no matter what they say about how "unique" or "friendly" they are. They all connect to the same national and international clearinghouse systems. They all "borrow" (sic) money from the same "federal bank" (sic) in order to lend it out, and so on. Therefore, find a bank that is physically convenient to you, so that you can easily walk inside and ask someone.

My reason for having a local bank account is for the (very) rare times I need to withdraw more cash than I can get from an ATM, or deposit cash. It's a free account, and I don't keep much money in it. If I need to withdraw cash, I transfer it from my other bank, and if I make cash deposits I generally transfer to my other bank. If I had to give up one account, it would be the local one, but it's easy to keep it. It's just a matter of convenience, and I seldom bother to visit the local bank or check it online. I can do that from my real bank, online. But it's a matter of personal choice, and there is no shortage of banks for anyone to use.

Endorse the cheque with the name used on the cheque and that should be OK. If you have a letter addressed to you under that name, with the address at which the bank has you listed, that would remove any suspicions, but it really shouldn't be necessary.

Thumbs up

I have accounts at two banks.

The first bank I went to, the teller of the bank called the headquarter building, discussed for a few minutes, and told me to go get a new check with my legal name on,

The second bank I went to, which is bigger than the first bank I went to, told me that they can deposit the check into my bank account because my bank account with them is made under my legal name, and they also have my English name associated and saved under my bank account, under "Alias name", and offered that they can deposit the check into my bank account right at the spot if I wanted to. However, they did ask me for an ID with my English name on it, and I gave them my university student card which was exactly what they wanted.

Thought you outta know~~ ( famous Harry Potter quote )
