[SOLVED]host/Market/publish a motion picture?[DEVLOS]

Hey now:

Our attorney created a Movie.
I have an .avi and a .mov file that is a full-length motion picture.

The files are HUGE.
So huge, I don't believe anyone would download them.

The .avi is 116G
The .mov is 118G
I believe that an Apple Product may have produced this motion picture in it's native .mov format.

Now that's not even the best part.
They want to charge for downloading this motion picture.

After I get over the size of the files, I have no earthly idea how to proceed.

Amazon comes to mind.
iTunes
Youtube
Vimeo
...

But processing payments....

Suggestions welcomed and
Thank you for your time.

JJ

Well, since you say that "I believe that(!!)" ... "an Apple product" ... "may have produced" ... this motion picture ...

... do you, in fact ... "own(!) it?!"

If you do, then, yeah, there are plenty of legitimate services, such as YouTube, "who have solved this technical problem." (Hint: it's called streaming.)

I'd assume that all of these stores handle the payment processing.

One Usenet, such a file would be compressed and broken into multiple *.rar files or divided into segments with something like lxsplit, with accompanying *.par2 files, to be made available for download and subsequent reassembly.

You are indeed, correct...that is pretty huge for a standard full-length movie. First thing I'd do would be to get it into a different format, with better compression.

Probably...seen that before from Apple products, especially when used by someone non-technical. They'll crank the quality as high as it'll go, and record the soundtrack with 7.1/THX/Whatever, at 128k, and be AMAZED at the file size. When taking it down to a 'regular' 1080p with lower bitrate audio will make it MUCH more manageable.

A client of mine is in the same boat. They put up a Wordpress site, using the S2 member plugin, letting folks pay for access to certain parts of the website. If they're planning on more movies or other works, that may be the way to go, since you can then keep track of lots of crap that S2 lets you. May be overkill for you, though.

The WPEC plugin is cheap (about $300), and handles secure CC processing. From there, you can link out to an Amazon S3 bucket, which will geographically split up the downloads...someone in New York won't be downloading from a server in Utah, so their speed will be good. And that's fairly cheap too.

Well, he's got a shiny new $3000.00 Mac so he can bust out the editor.
Thanks for the S2 and S3 tips.
118G inbound to S3 is gonna be a drag and pricey.
Might have to ship it to them, let them do it from physical, and that's pricier.
File size has to come down, no if, and, or buts about it.

to be continued...

Thanks!
