Makes sense. Now we'll see if they are actually spy drones or just local hobbyists being irresponsible.

Over the weekend Boston authorities arrested 2 who were on a barrier island near Logan airport flying some drones. By the names they seem to be locals.

Not much details, three guys, one fled and apparently got on a boat to escape, the other two were caught on the island and had a drone in a backpack.

I'm guessing ignorance or stupidity, or maybe even common use, bad timing. Like maybe they're drone aficionados who regularly did this but got caught due to extra focus. In the end, flying near an airport is bad.

My drone doesn't seem to have either of these features. Are you suggesting they are secret? Since there are frequent news stories about drones in restricted airspace (one in Ohio today) are these measures easy to circumvent?

Careful. As of when I began this thread all reports of drones flying in restricted airspace were mere scurrilous rumour. It's actually one reason officials had difficulty figuring out what was legal action, In restricted space the action would be clear and immediate. It's not like drones are difficult to take down. They don't have magick shields.

I remember from decades ago--like even before 9/11--news of nuclear "suitcase bombs" missing from the Russian arsenal.

I don't remember any news of them ever being found.

I'm expecting new regulations restricting drone use. Watchers don't like it when they can be also watched.

I remember a documentary in the '90s where they made a fake briefcase bomb and tried to get it through security at an airport. The big rumour they were basing it on was a supposed (Chinese?) high explosive that had enough energy density to detonate a nuclear bomb that small. Their mock-up was spotted by security, but IIRC they hadn't done much to disguise its X-ray shadow.

As for drones avoiding certain airspace, that's a nice idea but they'd need something like GPS to do that, and I'm pretty sure the cheaper ones don't have such capability. For the rest, I suspect a decently radio-savvy amateur could find a way to interfere with the positioning without blocking the remote control signals.

A "nuclear 'suitcase bomb,'" if it ever existed, would undoubtedly be too heavy to pick up. Uranium is the heaviest of metals.

I'm therefore pretty darned sure why no such thing has ever been "found."

Which weighs more: a pound of feathers, or a pound of uranium?

Hiroshima's "Little Boy" gravity bomb | 64 kg of Uranium-235, about 1.38% of the uranium fissioned
Nagasaki's "Fat Man" gravity bomb | 6.2 kg of Plutonium-239, about 1 kg fissioned

Initially I all but ignored all the reactions to reports of numerous drones flying about. Given that at least publicly the Federal Govt. and Military sources seemed unconcerned, so was I.

Lately that has changed some because the hysteria is ramping up to insane levels and to me it looks like whatever the story is, it could be really bad.
The so called drones that have been reported are the size of small aircraft if you look at the video's people posted on social media, and then the news media picked up.

As is typical in western media culture people are only hysterical about anything, for seemingly unknowable reasons, and in this case, with videos of what literally look like giant flying UFO's, and not little insignificant drones, nobody cares

Not to mention the world of issues, that people ought to be hysterical about
