Hope us mods never give this sorta attitude
I've been using qmail for a little while now and am generally very impressed with it, nice bit of open source software. IMHO part of what makes open source software so good is the support and community that goes with it. I'd heard (from someone on this forum in a recent post) that the qmail mailing list isn't always that helpful/friendly. To be honest I thought that it was probably a slight exageration, or someone having a bad day. Until I asked a question myself

I'm just really glad that the LQ mods don't act like this; but if at anytime we do make you feel that you're getting this kind of attitude then I applogies in advance, please bring it to either the mods attention or Jeremy's. Rant over! Jamie... |
(..)"what I can't understand is how anyone would even be bother to respond with such a useless attitude-filled reply, which I don't feel their contributions to date excuse.
Slightly OT, but have you actually tried to find out *why* he replied that way? |
No idea, I recon he felt that I was wasting their time by not supplying the necessary info. In the guys sig was this page http://www.qcc.ca/~charlesc/writings...ist-bliss.html on how to post to the list which he told me to read... I think he must get stressed asking people for the necessary details to help him answer their questions.
I've recently had a mail from another guy on the list containing the following Quote:
Jamie... |
So did you then post it to the list? ;)
I wonder why you need to supply REAL domains, REAL users... Fake ones work just the same don't they? :) Cool |

cheers Jamie.... |
FWIW, if I read his "bliss" page #2 right then yours surely was a "special case" since "(..) the knowledgable members of the list will generally ignore your question because of this." :-]
|
So you're mad because you failed to follow the accepted customs of a mailing list and the other people there called you on it?
Besides, Postfix is better :D |

cheers Jamie... |
And that attitude you got most likely is due to the fact that you apparently didn't follow the customs of the QMail support list.

Nonetheless...
Here's the thing. The people you see on those mailing lists don't have to help you. If they want to request that you follow a few simple rules, that's entirely up to them. If you don't want to follow them, that's entirely up to you. Just don't expect them to help you. |
