Holiday Destination...
 

If you were given a free airline (return) ticket with 2 weeks free accommodation in any 5-star hotel of your choice, which one destination would you travel to?

that's easy
 

Anywhere in Latin America where tourism hasn't spoiled it all (like Cancún in Mexico for instance)
Preferably, Peru, Bovilia, Honduras, Colombia, Uruguay.....

I really hate places like costa del sol (spain), Isla cozumel (Mexico) and Hawai, where tourist walk around acting like they own the place and where the locals (out of economics needs, trust me I do understand them) turn their cultural heritage and the beauty of the nature into a sideshow or atraction.

Somewhere that speaks Spanish as their native language (I love that language...much better than English...pah) and doesn't have lots of idiots running around shouting abuse...

What really annoys me is the English attitude of 'If they can't understand me, I'll shout a little bit louder'...der, try speaking their bloody language for a change!

Sorry, it pisses me off.

We do it the other way around (which in turn anoys me also)
We don't even give people that come to Holland a change to try to speak dutch even if they want to! Look at Amsterdam e.g. everything is standard in English and than with a German and Dutch translation beneath (in that order!!!) We just like showing of how great we are at speaking foreign languages I guess.

Adn yes you're right, spanish is a great language (allthough I love the way Italian sounds as well)

Sorry, I'm sure someone else will attempt to steer this back on topic. But hey, this is the general forum, where topics such as musical taste can turn ugly and start discussing Vulcan mating habits and whether dolphins do naughty things with themselves.

Oh, don't get me wrong, annehoog, I'm all for people showing off their lingual proweress, but does it always have to be the 'foreigners' (by that, I mean those for whom English is not their native language)?

I suppose what offends me even more than English folk not making any effort what-so-ever, is when English folk take the piss: 'Oi, waitero, get meo a beero'. Just really gets on my nerves.

With regard to Spanish: I suppose the reason I prefer it is because I've had more experience with it. When I was v. little my parents would take us on holiday to the more preserved areas of Spain (i.e. the bits that hadn't been discovered by the British tourist boards, and so hadn't been spoiled) and so I guess I just got used to it. When I went to school I did Spanish to GCSE (11-16) and then A-level (pre-University) levels. Italian is a very nice sounding language, though, I must agree.

I love the beach, so I would like to go to the Bahamas. There I could snorkel, scuba, tan, shop, eat, play with dolphins and mini-sharks, and possible meet some cute dude.

In regards to language spoken... the Americans are by far the worst at thinking that people in another country speak their language. They dont even bother to learn as little, then they wonder why they were treated so badly.

I may be American, but I have more respect than that. Everyone that does not I fart in their general direction.

Okay, I know I would catch flak from the Brits for this one... London. Its an easy trip to the continent to check out some of my old hometowns: Berlin, Frankfurt, and Copenhagen. I hate the beach and can't be bothered to learn another language. Plus I'de rather visit a country where the bartender doesn't make a face when I light up a cigarette.

Let's seeeeee... I'd go to Australia or New Zealand in the US winter time. I want to see penguins , but Antarctica is too freezing man. :cool: :D

Contrary to what most people like, I would go to Alaska in the winter, I have to at least once in my life see the Northern Lights up there, plus I like the cold I never seem to have any allergies when it is –20F Just my opinion though.

I'd also have to go with somewhere cold and dark in the winter. Somewhere in Scandinavia would be nice with all those lovely blonde girls. I mean, when its cold and dark outside what else do you do? <rummage...> Now where's my passport!!??

Since my work takes me out of town on a regualr basis, I don't "go away" for a vacation. I stay home and visit friends, screen calls (tell the office you've left town so they won't bother you as much).

So what would I do with 2 free airline tickets? Easy - give them to my boss while I vacation at home.:D

it'd have to be somewhere in france - preferably riviera or maybe the countryside - i luuuuuuuuv french accents :)... i'd have to go with someone who speaks fluently tho... i can understand a fair amount of it, but my pronounciation would kill a small french pig.

I would have to say I'd like visit Las Vegas, I just think the place looks pretty cool (from what I've seen in magazines and TV) with a those theme-based hotels and casinos. I don't think I would wanna live there though, but I think it would be pretty cool. As for sandy beaches and hinterland escapes that's what the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast is for. :)
