It's a little cluttered, but it supprisingly responsive. And it has some nice features, like automatically opening links in new tabs. After five minutes, i'm pretty impressed.
Well, Opera is --- I should say was since it's quite a few years since I last used it --- but back in the day, it was a quite neat product. I'm pretty convinced that it has only improved over the years, but two fundamental flaws still remain:
(the superficial one) it costs money.
(the interesting one) it's non-free.
to each his own, of course. I just won't recommend it when there's a perfectly viable free alternative (yep, I'm talking about FF).
I use Opera for testing web projects, but primarily use Firefox.
BTW Opera is free, providing you're willing to put up with a small advertisement. I have no problem with the ad so I've never paid cash for Opera - just bandwidth and screen estate.
Do you mean free as in free beer or free speech? I'm actually referring to both, with freedom being the interesting part. Last time I checked (recently), there was no `get the source here' link, so I assume you meen (zero) price.
Now don't get me wrong: free beer is nice, but when there's a free (speech) alternative, why not use that?
You can open links in tabs with Firefox by clicking with your mouse-third button. Opera is annoying with advertisement, which is a big turn off with some many (better) alternatives out there add/spyware free...
I've tried Mozilla, Firefox, Konqueror, etc., but I keep coming back to Opera. The ad banner is very unobtrusive, and personally, I think it *works* better than the alternatives.

What's wrong with a company actually making money off of a project? By doing so they're ensuring they'll be around to produce the next version. In the case of Opera, that small ad is well worth it. If you want to consider it spyware, well, you have the right to your opinion but it's wrong. I hope you don't use google, because their adsense technology "spies" on your queries, and what's more, they track your IP address.
Opera isn't bad, I've looked at a few versions over the years as an alternative to IE. Just too cluttered for my taste and a bunch of little things that bug me about it.
I have been using (and paying for opera) since late version 6. On the matter of being cluttered, I agree, the default setup really sucks. You need to get a better theme and remove about half of the buttons on the screen (in my opinion) Anyway, I find it faster than my firefox, and with my ultra minimal theme and removal of any button that I dont use takes up less screen space than firefox. Course I am paying, but hey, I think financial support of software you use isnt a bad thing. Especially since opera would have to be my number one used program (except for like, cd, ls, less, vim, ssh...)
I loved Opera and used it all the time, It is much faster than any other browser I have used including FF but its got an annoying file save and download mechanism so I switched to FF.
