That is an mp3 of a crappy (taped off the radio, most likely in the 80s) recording. The file should, in theory, persist for three days. If anyone recognizes it can you please reply here? Thank you.
It sounds like some punk loser back in the 1970s. The quality was awful, or maybe the drummer had crashed out on the cymbals. It would have been taped in the mid-70s, best guess.
Nobody did it. he certainly never got another mention. Schoolkids formed punk bands for a few weeks. I was young then and remember these BBC & Radio Luxemburg DJs "Getting to appreciate this Punk Rock thing." Two years later, the same guys were saying "Thank Goodness it's gone." Only 2 groups ever came out of that in Europe.
Bob Geldof & the Boomtown Rats. They changed direction.
Ian Drury & the Blockheads. They stayed small-timers but had one big hit.
The Sex Pistols didn't come out - they disintegrated, died, or drank/drugged themselves into oblivion. Johnny Rotten is still alive, I believe.
But it did have it's funny side. Some guy released a punk piss-take "Gordon is a moron" (IIRC). Within a week or two it was a huge punk hit, and was on Radio Luxemburg with his tune at #5, trying to get out of the large hole he had dug for himself In the days of 45s, a hit meant big money!

The wording on your post is a bit confusing, almost as if you were replying to another thread yet posted here by mistake?
Erm, punk is almost never done with drum machines and samplers. That much is evident in the audio that I linked; note the distinct sound of gated snare, possibly sampled from an Art Of Noise tune. Also the tempo is not in the usual punk range. The tune in question has more of an 80s sample-based electronic sound.
The three acts you mentioned all had male vocalists only, while the audio in the link I posted has a female vocalist. The audio link I posted does work, right?
p.s. A note for others: the quality of the linked audio is not good, because it was taped off of the radio in the 80s, onto cassette. The cassette was finely aged in a closet for decades before it was rediscovered.

Reason: clarifcation and request for clarification
I have to disagree with business_kid here; I think this sounds more like New Wave from the 1980s (of which I was a big fan).
Yep.
All I can say is it sounds US American (the singer).
At a time when many, many "bands" were doing that particular sound. If it's American, and it sounds commercial, and played on the radio, my guess is mid-80s.
jr_bob_dobbs, even if you say you can't find it through lyrics, you might want to post them here, others might be more lucky.
jr_bob_dobbs, another idea: do you have the right equipment to play the original back & digitize it in best quality?
In other words, what you're showing us, is that as good as it gets?
I did try audiotag.info before starting the thread.
Agreed, the quality is bad, but as stated before, it was a cassette taped off the radio back in the 80s. The RCA output of a cassette deck was fed direct to the audio input of the computer. So the quality is the best there is. If I had the album or the CD it would be better quality but if I had the album or CD I'd know who it was.
This tune is becoming so obscure that I may have to upload on youtube and claim that I wrote & recorded it just so that in the copyright take-down they have to mention the original artist & title.
@ondoho:
Here are the lyrics, as much as I can hear them so there is uncertainty and error
Code:
i was tying (tying? typing?)
i die with my safe
but i was driving driving driving in the rain
but did you ever would you ever pose (expose? suppose?) my love to you
oh you're so clever, you're forever
????-ing up to me
and why why
don't i just say to you
goodbye
I've got no use for you
and why and why
don't i just say to you
goodbye goodbye
and shut the door on you
dah dah duh dah dah and
dah dah and crash
crash back
dah dah duh dah dah and
dah dah and crash
crash back
dah dah duh dah dah
crash back
crash back
i'm not joking
i have no care
and now you're choking
choking
on these words I said
lyru
but if you swallow them tomorrow
your love will start again
but if you follow, should you follow
they'll be no happy end
and why don't i just say to you
Individual lines are so generic which is probably why lyric searches are unsuccessful.
p.s. And if one searches on Dah Dah they get the unrelated yet most excellent Dah Dah Dah tune by Trio, instead.
p.p.s. The audio linked in the original post should expire in about twelve hours from now

Reason: html & bbcode, oh my

I'd never upload it to Youtube with my name on it. Someone might listen to it. It sound like some pimple-ridden adolescents playing with their Christmas presents; then one of them "wrote a song."
Looks like the file (the temporary link on the original post) has expired, so also must this thread. Thank you for the posts that were positive & helpful.
