Oy, you should get used to this. It's obvous that after a while ( usually around a year ) a windows installation will start comming up with wierd errors that will make working on your PC sometimes completley impossile ( like in your case ). The only thing you can do is a complete format and reinstall.

i have vcome to notice that but i'd been wondering cuz it was an upgrade if they'd fixed it.
thats the reason i switched,
thanks for the answer unfortantly i cant reformat becuase it has about 12 years of data on it and no cdburner or any way to back it up. so unfortanly thats not gonna be possible.
thanks if anyone has an idea that i can fix it with out reformating that wwould be very helpful though i fear that becuase it's windows that there won't be a way (oh i love windows not!!!!)

Get yourself a Knoppix-cd and boot the bastard with that.
See if you can fix the problem from there.
You might want to (temporarely) install another harddisk to copy all the files that needs to be backed-up.(A separate partition would do the trick as well)

I'm used to that. This is not a rare thing. Usually when friends come to me for this kind of problem, I use gparted, or knoppix to make a new partition (resizing the other ones in order to make room) and reinstall windows on this partition. Next time you can reinstall windows on this partition without loosing data on other partitions. You can do that 2 or 3 times, after that, Windows is so broken that all the partition become infected by severe windows errors and inconsistancies. Backup your important data and reinstall everything from times to times.
