help me interpret this dialogue from a Dilbert strip
 

I looked up a certain Dilbert strip from decades ago: https://dilbert.com/strip/1995-02-26. I never understood panel #6 in this, because it sounded like techno-gibberish. Am I right that "slap a BRI analyzer on a circuit and look for bad packets" is only some nonsense made up by Scott Adams to mock engineer jargon?

Nope, it's 100% real.

And that's the joke here; Dilbert's mother had no idea what his job was, but not because she didn't understand the technology. One can only assume Dilbert has inherited his interpersonal skills and empathy for his fellow man from her.

Edit: Scott Adams is an engineer, BTW.

I'm not going to jump to the conclusion that you share my opinion that Dilbert himself is a jerk in recent years; but if nothing else, you acknowledged that Dilbert despises other people.

Totally real, Scott Adams came from Pacbell a telecommunications company. A BRI analyzer can find good and bad packets. BRI is an ISDN basic rate interface provided to customers back in the day when ISDN was available, 2 64kbit channels.
