Help downloading using links

I am trying to install Gentoo for the millionth time and am tired of going through the many steps over and over again. it's because i keep making mistakes, forget where i'm at, and then need to restart.

i have decided to use my gecities page as a way to store a script that has all of the steps. the problem is that when i download the script from geocities using links (that is the only program i have at that point in the installation), i get a file with a bunch of gibberish that i can only assume to be a binary file. when i try to run it, i get an error that says bash...cannot execute binary file.

it should be a simple text file, but something is wrong and i can figure it out. any help would be great!

Regards,

Sir Captain

why can't you put the script on a usbkey, floppy, cdrom, or even leave it on the hard drive?
anyway, if you gzip the file, then gzip -d the file after you download it, you should be ok.
