Has Android harmed Linux adoption?

Speaking to a few people and also of my own attitude I hear alot now "Well I did use linux but I got tired of fiddling with it"

Android isn't like that. You just use it.
Conversely of course, you have a lot less control. For a start there are always elements that are closed source - the modem binary blob is the minimum.

Do you think that Android has raised the bar and put people off Linux? It's put me off but I'm just a sample of one.

When I say I've lost the patience I've been using linux for maybe 8-10 years and I still find it's the upgrades that are the problem. A first "emerge world" "apt-get dist-upgrade" or rpm dist upgrade tends to be ok but once that is run a 2nd or 3rd time then I find things tend to break. Agree?
Do you have a system where you are able to keep /home on another partition and you instead replace the whole O/S smoothly? How does this work for you with those leftover .config files in your home dir?

How can we improve?

I use Android on my phone, and am 90% Linux on my computers. I've been running Linux near-exclusively beyond games for 7-10 years now.

Android is a Linux distribution.

If the Android guys are contributing to kernel development then GNU/Linux folk benefit.
