hal.dll not found

i have windows xp in hda1,
hda2 is formated to install fedora core 4,
after installation of fedora,
i can boot fedora, but when i choose windows xp,
it says hal.dll in system32 folder not found or corrupt,
so i access hda1 thru laptop and copy that file into the winxp,
reboot , but problem persists,
why?
any solution?

Is the windows partition hidden?

Post the output of:

fdisk -l

from http://www.compphix.com/corrupthal.html

If you get an error regarding a missing or corrupt hal.dll file, it might simply be the BOOT.INI file on the root of the C: drive that is misconfigured.

Here's what to do:
1)Insert and boot from your Windows XP CD.
2) At the first R=Repair option, press the R key.
3) Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
4) Typically this will be #1.
5) Type bootcfg /list to show the current entries in the BOOT.INI file.
6) Type bootcfg /rebuild to repair it.
7) Take out the CD ROM and type exit.

By the way, I have no idea how this will affect a dual boot system.

I've used those commands and they've done nothing but screw things up worse than they were before.

TigerLinux 10-02-2005 07:01 AM

so, it is microsoft's faults.

Furlinastis 10-02-2005 07:32 AM

lmao, maybe I used them wrong, I don't know. BUT the only time I've ever used them is when I've encountered a problem and the Microsofts knowledge base specifically told me to use those commands for my particular problem. And I have always had to reinstall because my partition table became totally corrupt because of those commands.
