I got this email the other day.

Is anyone out there willing to agree with me that if someone is stupid enough to take this seriously, then the spammer responsible really deserves every penny they can get? However much the super-average window's user isn't like (most of) you or I, if they get taken in my that, they deserve it, i mean.. "bird's claw and began" ???? good luck to them!

that and that they spilt up the word mo r t gage and approv a l, its a little diffucult to take it seriously, unless you are seriously naive.

But people do get taken in by badly worded and written email (take the 419 scam for example). Whether it's through fear that they may miss something important or whether the net (and BillG) have trained users to be click through monkeys I don't know.

Frankly, as with those unsolicited emails that promise you Anna Kournikova in the altogether and leave a virus on your pc, after all the warnings on the net, in email and in the newspapers, those people deserve what they get.

Can anyone lend me their house keys? I can't find mine ........ ;)

i think this has to do with techniques to bypass spam filters...

The excuse is often cited that many people don't understand computers and get scared or whatever, but surely anyone falling for that must also be the same people that would react the same if someone knocked on their door. The kind of person that buys from tv infomercials....

Yeah, but that means that these people haven't even got the benefit of low animal cunning. A day in the life of one of these people:
9am Email from secutrityteam@theirbank.com saying "there are emails circulating pretending to be from us and asking for your Bank numbers, passwords, security questions, etc. please do not answer these emails. this is a scam"

10am Email from friendlyperson@theirbank.com saying "our computrz were a little borken today and we can't find your details. please go to http://www.thisisdefinitelynotascama...omyourbank.com and enter your name, bank numbers, pin numbers, passwords, security details. we can then fill in the blanks on our computers."

1015am They have just finished entering their details. They hit submit. A message appears saying "thank you for filling in the details. could you leave your housekeys under the mat in case we need to come round"

1020am Key is securely under the mat

1021am Somewhere a criminal has just blown the person's life savings on a snail race

1030am They go to buy something in leatherette from a shopping channel to be told that they are out of money

1035am they are on the phone to their bank. the bank says "your money was drawn out today somewhere in Europe. " the person says "oh my (much wailing and gnashing of teeth) I have no idea how this could of happened".

Until that Anna Kournikova pic is a virus that turns their computer into a spam bot. Doesn't really hurt them, but kills our ISPs and inboxes.

Exactly, if you send out 1 000 000 emails and get a response rate of 0.01% then the $200 bucks you spent on the email list was well worth it...

I once saw a program on bbc about a man who makes his money from placing newspaper advertisements saying something like Earn over £1000 per week, just send £10 to find out how, and when anyone responds he tells them what he does, this man is a genius, and he does make thousands a week. anyone STUPID enough to send the guy anything deserves to be ripped off.

Same thing as this email, same thing as all the kazaa viruses etc, these people deserve all they get, if i tried to get in a car without knowing how to drive id be arrested. They should learn how to drive their pc's, its hardly difficult. i.e. get an email with an image.jpg.exe file attached, average person will ignore or delete, but theirs always a fuckwit who clicks on it. My answer = A Glock and some kind of i.p. to real world address trace

not to mention that ebay scam with

"this isnt REALLY a computer, but with this guide we will tell you how to get htousands of dollars worht of electronics ABSOLUTELY FREE"

And there are all these people all over this M-class planet believing these guys on telly, that they REALLY want to change things and that things will REALLY get better, when you vote for them. Hey and they really care for your family and really wanted to go to Iraq to sort Saddam out. And they have everything under control. Yeah.
