windows zip programs won't be able to read a linux gzipped program. there are differences between the two. if you could read anything made for linux in windows, what would be the point of having two different OS's.

a pdf file is a pdf file.. a gzip file is usually created for unzipping in linux or unix.. don't know of any programs that would unzip it in windows. i don't think winzip does it by default if that is what your trying it with.

Older versions of winzip are unable to use tar and gzip. The latest version should be able to though - like some have stated.
