Google maps versus Nokia's OVI maps

I have started looking up Gooooo for comparisons.

In a quick search I found that Google maps support "Street views" which Nokia's OVI maps don't have. But this is limited to few western countries only.

I want to know if either of them provide much more in depth detail w.r.t the streets, roads and lanes as compared to other.

Any enlightenments? or any links where this comparison is shown without bias?

I use Google Maps on the PC and Ovi Maps on my Nokia - for my uses they are both identical. I forget whether Ovi gets to the full level of detail that Google does, I certainly use the top down satellite view quite often, but how often does anyone need to use the view that shows how you would walk down a street?

I don't need all this for myself, actually, we have unmanned vehicles which need to move in the streets. For them it is necessary to know whether the lane is one way or two way, names of the streets, landmarks on them, etc.

Now I just compared the National highway 1 in India on both the maps. And the results are clear.

But still, there is not much text on the Google streets too.

Yeah, Ovi maps are far less detailed. That said, I am certain that the view on my phone is superior to the version shown on the PC.

Nokia OVI maps(on a cellphone) don't need internet to work (you can update maps via PC, and use them on the phone without active internet connection), which is a huge plus. Amount of detail depends on your country (AFAIK, map of USA is the most detailed, but for the rest of the world it gets worse) - for example, I couldn't find detailed map of japan for my phone, and it is not uncommon to find a small town without mapped streets , but for *me* ability to work offline is more important than level of detail.

Thanks SigTerm, for us the detailed view of streets is more important than anything else.
But I am looking for a way by which Google maps can be cached too.

and the damn QtMobility doesn't support anything else than OVI maps.

You could try contacting google directly. If you're developing a commercial app on behalf of some company (it sounds like that, for some reason), they should be able to answer your questions (well, in theory).

I haven't done any "business" with google, so I can't help you there. All I know that there should be contact information somewhere.
