google: linux sucks?

Can anyone please explain these search results from google:

"windows sucks": about 21,300 results.
"microsoft sucks": about 19,600 results.
"linux sucks": about 50,500 results.

Thats bad, considering that the windows OS has much more users than Linux...

You've probably got safe-search on.
Results:

Linux sucks:994,000

Windows sucks:1,300,000

Oh, and by the way, this thread ought to be moved to general, not Linux-general

Um, searching for linux rocks and searching for the phrase "Linux rocks" are two very different things!

The way that suck/rules-o-meter does it, the phrase "Windows sure sucks! What's Linux like?" adds points to "Windows Sucks" AND "Linux Sucks".

Phrases search results:

Windows sucks: 21,300
Windows rocks: 1,530
Windows rules: 3,440

Linux sucks: 51,400
Linux rocks: 24,600
Linux rules: 24,200

Total for Windows: -16,330
Total for Linux: -2,600

Looks like a win for Linux.

Like me you used a PHRASE SEARCH on Google. That's why the numbers are so much lower than other searches.

The reason "Linux sucks" is so high isn't because of Windows users per se. Some distros are very newbie-unfriendly, thus prompting beginners to just give up since they can't do anything in Linux. Some Linux distros present a CLI only, so beginners feel like they've been trapped in an obsolete system.

I think a lot of people (like me) are being deceived by linux.
I find unacceptable the sheer amount of time that I need to invest to customize my system (recompile the kernel and iptables) and to install new hardware (DVB receiver).
I was told this OS was great because it can be customized and adapted to different needs. But it just doesnt make any sense to try to customize your linux distro if you're not a professional linux administrator or a computer passionate.

I'm sorry that you feel that way. I don't think GNU/Linux users are out to "decieve" anyone. I think we are all just happy and enthusiastic to have choices other than Crapple and Microsloth.

Though, the main goal of GNU/Linux is not to destroy other operating systems. The main goal is Freedom. Freedom of choice, Freedom of vendor, Freedom to modify, and Freedom to criticise(if you want to). It is the lack of Freedom which is causing other operating systems to destroy themselves.

Before giving up completely, may I suggest you try Linspire. I really believe it is about the best distro for new comers.

P.S.
Micheal Roberts of Linspire recently offered the distribution for free on OSNews. I have uploaded the bittorent file to my website. It will allow you to download the full iso, so that you can burn it to a CD.
Linspire Install CD
Linspire Live CD (lets you test run the distro from CD without install)

You know, I've been doing some research into this whole "search engine" business recently and I must say that the total number of results you get for any search string does not really matter at all. Words can occur randomly at almost *any* website and the lower down you go into the search results (i.e. deeper than 4 or 5 pages) the results will have almost absolutely nothing to do with the context of the original search string or strings.

The best way to search are using the AND, OR keywords along with phrases. They yield the best and most relevant results (most of the time at least ).

I don't think you need to use boolean keywords like AND/OR with Google, it uses "AND" by default.
FWIW:
Entering windows sucks returns about 1.300.000 results and linux sucks only 1.040.000
More fascinating results (with parentheses):
"Bill Gates sucks" 2810 results
"Linus Torvalds sucks" 10 results
"Monica Lewinsky sucks" 31 results
"God sucks" 3660 results
"Beelzebub sucks" 0 results

By deceived I mean that I expected more. Now I know no body is deceiving me on purpose when it comes to Linux, as opposed to Microsoft's deceitful marketing practices.
I just heard so many people raving about how great linux was that I began thinking that this was the cure for all my problems.
Why is it that no one can talk about the good things and the bad things of linux on the same page?
BTW I used quotes in my google search.

Linux is like cooking - you can put in a solid 2 hours making a gourmet home-made dinner, or you can go to the local market and buy a frozen TV dinner to heat up in the microwave in 7 minutes. For some people, it's worth investing the time to produce *exactly* what you want, using the best quality ingredients available. For others, letting someone else decide what should be produced is not only easier but takes far less time, but the tradeoff is that the quality will only be marginal. Some people prefer the former, others consider the latter to be acceptable. To each his own -- J.W.
