Appears to be working fine. Did this happen earlier?

thehundredthone 03-24-2004 02:52 PM

has happened once or twice before - only for a minute though. this time round it stayed for a good 10 min!

This isn't a linux technical question since there's nothing we can do about it. Linux-General is for problems relating to Linux - problems with websites belong in General.

Moved.

I never understood why people have to report that sites are down, it happens, its life.

i agree i may have emphasised the wrong information. what i wanted to know was, since google runs a cluster (which i only have a vague idea of) of linux computers - 10,000 or something? , what could happen that could cause the whole site to go down.

reporting it was not my main aim :o

Well, there are 1,463,214.4 things that could go wrong. :D

And linux, or more importantly, probably, the administration of linux, is not perfect. So you can't expect 100% uptime all the time.

Also, it could just be that some link in the path from you and your ISP to the google server was broken.

Or, as in my case, a giant spaceship sometimes hovers over my house and disrupts everything.

1 computer or 10,000 computers... a site can still be unavailable or down for any reason. The amount of computers to me makes no difference really.. ;)
