Google's Chrome Web Browser
Where is the download link for the Chrome web browser?
The news releases say there is a beta download link, but darn me if I can find it. |
Did you google for it? :D
Just kidding, I am also looking for it, but that browser worries me. At this time, it could grab a bite from any browser player on the market. I'd personally want to see it hit IE hard, but the chances of it hitting Firefox are also there and with the speed Google releases things for Linux (if and when actually) is what worries me... |

Nice, I'm definitely a fan of having more of web pages being viewable (and faster!) on my screen.

Yeah, too bad it says "Google Chrome (BETA) for Windows". I guess that means we'll have to wait a while for them to port it ? I don't see any download button, do you ?
EDIT: Ah, wait I found something: http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/linux.html |

I just had to give it a go with this browser. After all, it is google. Well, I didn't like the browser at all. The interface is pretty nice and minimal, just the way I like it.
What I hated with it (and it was enough to remove it from my PC) is that it believes the end user is an idiot. It did not allow me to choose where to install or which language to choose. It just placed the installed files in a less than awkward place and installed the language judging by my location, even though my XP is in English. I did not find where to change the default language (if at all possible). But hey, if it is more than 3 clicks away, it is broken (see how Opera and Maxthon handles that beautifully). It does include spell checker though. I did like how the search integrates with the browser and flash worked fine by playing around on youtube. Definitely a browser I will be trying out again, when they stop believing that all end-users are clueless newbies... When you try to uninstall it, a pop up comes up saying: "Are you sure you want to uninstall Google Chrome?(Have we said something stupid?)". Kinda like the old ID Software games when you wanted to quit. Expect that ID, unlike Google, has a funny sense of humor... |

I don't have a Windows box to run it on. Apparently you can test Chromium builds using the instructions here: http://dev.chromium.org/developers/h...ructions-linux (I'm not really that interested; I just want to give it a quick try.) |

Found where to change it. 9 clicks to change the language from the options menu and a browser restart was required.

Per an analysis from El Reg, caveat emptor:

Ah, that will certainly suck and won't make Chrome a viable solution for any working environment. But hey, it is open source, let's wait for somebody to fork it, if it is worthy, because so far, I don't see it...
