Good place to get old laptop?

What is a good place to get an older laptop (Thinkpad?) with a working battery for cheap? Looking for a cheap laptop that will run Linux for wardriving / school. Any ideas?

It seems everybody on eBay loves to say "duhhhhh we don't know the condition of the batteryyyy... duhhhhhhh"
i.e. - it's dead and we don't want to tell you it is.

I got my thinkpad from this guy. I spent $470 shipped. I was pleased. The battery works, but like you say no one will guarantee a battery.
