good but bad for security?
 

i had a program before that was just like the isp's used.Butdidnt care for it at that time so i deleted it. It was just like what the isp's used it had some crazy options. But i do know that isp's can search for a person's ip just by knowing where they live or what there phone # is.. This program couldve had thos options too. This i think is very bad for security i think because if i know someones phone # and there isp is on phone line than i can get there ip no matter what, right?
If anyone knows where i can get this program or the name of it that would be great cause i think someone is using this program on me to figure out my ip address in order to get into my system. Please any advice or any information regarding this would be great and what do you guys think about this.

This is bogus.... the program you once had must have been a virus.. i never really heard of such -- and I know alot about the internet... and as much as I know now reveals no real way how it can be possible to look up an IP via tele/address

This has nothing to do really with Linux or a Success Story. It has been moved to the General forum.

IP's can be dynamic and can change. IT would be impossible to have a tool look up by address to find an IP as some dont' even have internet access.

But what could be more realistic would be a tool to look up what IP's are assigned/owned to an ISP and what they serve out to their customers connected, then I'm sure they issue out IP's that they own to particular regions and such. But nothing I'm sure that would be as detailed as the address lookup = find IP.

There are some that work in reverse by looking at the ip owner or looking at the DNS associated with the ip.
