I have lost many important files, long collected software ...and reformat, reinstall my entire hard drive many time because Microsoft windows.......never again for my life !!even Microsoft introduce new product longhorns.
linux open office replace Microsoft office 2003
........etc
People use different OS for different reasons. I don't believe in Microsoft bashing...not atleast on this forum. Microsoft exists because people buy it and people buy it because they like it so why not let them deal with the problems of their favorite OS. I am about choice and I'm only concerned if people are aware of alternatives. As a linux user, I believe, I should make people aware of the alternatives and benefits...to choose or not to choose is their problem.
Am i going tangent??? May be...but I saw this poll and thought I should voice my opinion. I think this one is going to get moved to General.
And I don't know what to say. The post/poll seems pretty pointless,
really. :} And it certainly doesn't belong here, shuffling it over to
general to die a peaceful death with the other mud-wrestling contests.
I've done it for everything but my games. Now my university has to do it. Or better the company that provides the stuff in the whole Netherlands. Anyway I think I might get the wireless working and if OOo2 is ok there might be a chance I can drop it completely.
Gotta agree... this sort of thread is old and tired.
Truth is, people buy computers to do something and they select both the type of computer and the operating system based on the application(s) they want to run. They don't run (or refuse to run) "Windows for Windows' sake," ditto Linux.
As long as the computer is running, doing the job it's supposed to do and earning the money it's supposed to be earning, it is usually most cost effective to let it just keep doing it. There's still a lot of Netware out there for just this reason. Sometimes the right choice is Linux, and sometimes the right choice is status quo... Windows. From a business perspective, it is never a foregone conclusion. An honest cost-benefit analysis must be performed, and incidentally, "license costs" are usually among the lowest factors. ("Expensive" software costs $20,000 ... "cheap" secretaries [and their "free" benefits, insurance, payroll taxes, etc] cost more.)
I agree with the post that was mentioned earlier that says let the people choose their os, just as long as the alternatives are presented to them with the benefits and compromises of each listed.
I own a windows PC for the simple purpose of playing counter-strike, splinter cell, SWAT, and using Photoshop and Flash. It sits across the room idling for most of the time, I do all my real work on a thinkpad x40 running gentoo.
I am however experimenting with running games/photoshop/flash on wine/cedega/whatever, it would certainly be more convenient to have my other box running linux. I mean for one, software suspend actually works in linux

This thread is closed. pleasehelpme, this forum is used by a large number of people around the world, many of them use it as a resource for work. We do not need this kind of attitude or language being used. Do not do it again. Using Linux does not mean that we all hate Microsoft or Windows, just that we choose to use an alternative.
