Future

Do you think Windows will still be the main OS or do you think linux will be?

I think that eventually (but we're talking the *very* big perspective), people will realise that free software (as in free speech) is the only way to do any software business at all--that's what the consumer will be demanding.

If & when it comes to that, microsoft will have been dead and gone for quite a while--or have converted to a totally different business model.

But I am notoriously optimistic :)

when i was in high school not that long ago we had a teletype machine that phoned into a
HP timeshare basic mainframe. Later when i went to college the university had an ibm running OS/MVT
we could type fortran on punch cards and stand in line to feed them in and them walk 3 blocks to stand in line at the printer to see if our program worked.

hopefully whatever we are using today will seem this absurdly obsolete in the future and this will include both Linux and Windows as funny old museum peices.

Good point.
