FreeDOS himem.sys up to 1TB RAM

HimemSX is an XMM, implementing XMS v3.5.

The SX in HimemSX stands for "Super-eXtended" - HimemSX can manage extended memory up to 1 terrabyte.

There's a patched version of Jack R. Ellis' nice tool RDISK, a ramdisk driver . It uses HimemSX's new functions to allocate its XMS memory beyond the 4 GB barrier, thus it doesn't need any "legacy" extended memory.

So, now I can fire up my old PPC iMac, get macBochs 386 emulator running and dual-boot a killer FreeDos and Slackware 3.3, while running a second instance of Bochs with Kubuntu -still booting now after a week. But I'm sure that by December I'll be able to get Firefox up and showing DuckDuckGo.

Really?!

Try iLinux OS man!

Please, can you stop spamming unrelated threads with iLinux propaganda?

I get it, you want people to use it. And I must say, the web page does look like a million dollars. If the distro is anywhere near as sleek, I'm sure it will succeed on its own merit.

BTW, the word "Chemistry" is misspelled ("Chemisrty") on the Apps page.

Having grown up with computers in the age of DOS, it is great to see people continuing to work on projects like this.

But I have to ask... what is the benefit of supporting such large amounts of RAM? Are there any DOS programs that need this?

Does this mean that Freedos can run software using such a memory space through this memory manager, or just many small programs?

At this point i think it mainly means that you can have big RAM disks above the 4gb limit and run DOS programs in the first 4gb.

OK, thank you. I did use very much RAM disk on extended memory back in the 1990s, with slow disk access.
