FreeDOS Doesn't Boot
 

Ok after digging out a ten-year-old (hybole) Gparted disk (and alot of crying) I managed to get Freedos Installed. And when it boots: .. That's it just "..".
How would I fix this? I don't mind reinstalling it. It is FAT16

Download a fresh disk image; either CD with everything, or the Balder floppy image.

FreeDOS is still available.

I don't have a blank cd, I use a manual work around that has been proven to work. The bootloader has to be manually installed because the postinst.bat assigns that we want to install to C drive (I must be like the luckiest person (sarcasm) in the world! My windows xp came on a FAT32 Partition AND I want to install FreeDOS!) but I want to install it to the D drive (/dev/sda4). If it helps the partition I want to install it on is FAT16.

I now understand your problem; Could you not try 'grub for dos'; If it is installed to the MBR, it should be able to boot both FDOS & XP.

I also have lubuntu installed, so I can't get rid of grub.
I also configured the windows loader to have a freedos entry and it does the same thing :(
I think this is a internal problem, not a loader problem, any ideas?
I did get a MBR installed on the D (/dev/sda4) installed for freedos, the windows configured one boots to the loader's image.

I see from your last post that you are actually using the Grub boot loader, therefore, all you should need to do is point it at your FDOS install. Drive 'D' in grub (v1.xxx) terminology would be 'HD1'. If you are using grub v2, it looks like you have to make an entry in /boot/grub/grub.cfg, at the end of the file.

No, update-grub (grub-mkconfig?) found it just when it goes to the entry (the windows entry in boot.ini does the same thing) all that comes up is ".." with the cursor after it... It does nothing... And I'm out of CDs! :(

Ok I dont know what I did but it started working, three things I think went to this : I used an external medium to boot, I chose C:/FDOS (the boot disk I used saw /dev/sda4 as C) insted of C:/ and I can't remember the third thing..

Glad to hear you have it working; if I were you, I would backup your grub config, or even /boot/grub, just in case. :)
