Smile Free Online Linux Desktop for your Browser

Hi, Some 2-3 years ago, I was using a Linux Online
desktop over my browser. It was comfortable to
use since you could start Firefox, Chat (xchat),
and you had an xterm for command line.

This website closed, and cannot find the name back of this service.

Few weeks ago, Ubuntu was proposing also, for testing,
a similar opportunity. But this is not available
any longer either.

Would you know a Free Online Linux Desktop for your Browser
or are you using one? It is simple it is Gnome or an X11 WM
into you web browser (Firefox,...). You have a login/pwd, and
can feel like in front of a Linux box anywhere.

Greetings

Do you mean something like this? http://oneye-project.org/ Than there is eyeOS which I believe has a free and paid version, http://www.eyeos.com/product and here is another link with eyeOS alternatives, http://alternativeto.net/software/eyeos/ Not sure if any of this has anything you are looking for, but hopefully it is a start at least.

For eyeOS this is what their website says.

Quote:
eyeOS Professional Edition
Discover a new concept for desktop management

eyeOS Professional Edition is a private-cloud application platform with a web-based desktop interface. Commonly called a cloud desktop because of its unique user interface, eyeOS delivers a whole desktop from the cloud with file management, personal management information tools, collaborative tools and with the integration of the the client’s applications.
Here is a Demo link to Oneye http://eyeos.astroroxy.com/ I typed in test for the user name and test for the password, I didn't need to create a new user. See if this is what you are looking for. Their main website is linked in my previous reply.

From the looks of this. These types of online desktops are written in C++, PHP, HTML5, etc. There is a good chance, though you have to check, that the servers themselves are probably Linux.

thank you. nice.
Although it is php and c++, it looks quite nice. But it misses SSH and a full Linux operating system, I would say, no? hwat do you think?

What you could do is maybe use this, if you want, briefly while you look around, maybe the link with eyeOS or onEye alternatives would be a good start. Look at all of this as a starting point for you until you find something you are 100% happy with. I can only recommend and help to point in, hopefully, a good direction.

I kept trying to think of the name of one I checked out a couple of years ago. For the life of me I could not remember the name, finally I found it. It is called Ulteo http://www.ulteo.com/home/ They have a community and premium plan. If this one isn't exactley what you like try and do a search for a free opensource alternative to Ulteo. It might give you something better.
