Nothing good comes for free. Some free hosts might pass as adequate but vertainly not good.

Look at google pages. You'll need a gmail account (ask me), and then you can get in line for Google Pages. I finally was able to setup my google page. It was easy (WYSIWYG), and you can also do some HTML. It is web based, so it should work in linux too. You can customize it a lot, it is quick, no ads.

Generally I would agree that nothing great is free, but occasionally my boss will sponsor organizations, groups or clubs with a "free" hosting account with the agreement that they put a link back to our homepage that says "Hosted By"...etc..etc.
If you want to ask him open a ticket on the support board. The worst you can get is a "no" right? The site link is in my sig.
