free audio player
What's a good free audio/mp3 player for linux? Is there a "main" one that most people use like winamp is to windows?

Oh, and also...what are my options for web browsers? I positively HATE netscape but the default one for KDE like konqueror won't run flash and such. Is there another option?

xmms is basically winamp for linux - it uses the same skins, looks and works basically the same, ect. it's one of the best ones out there, but there are variants. freeamp comes to mind.
for the browsers, i'm a netscape person myself, but there's the opera browser. www.opera.com - i think... (it might be .org) i suggest downloading the statically linked version. the dynamic one is a bitch to install correctly. |
yea freeamp
Thanks for the info! I knew about opera but I didn't know it ran on linux. I tried freeamp, but being a linux newbie, I couldn't install it correctly. It required something called gtx, which required something called glib. I couldn't get gtx to recognize that I had glib installed and therefore couldn't get freeamp to recognize gtx...oh well. I'll try the other one you mentioned! Thanks!

xmms is my personal fave - it's compatible with winamp skins(as i mentioned), so if you have any of those that you really like, you can use them with xmms as well.
xmms installation went kinda roughly for me the first time i tried to install it, so if you have any other questions, let me know. |
