Pretty sure you can do that in every version of Firefox ever released, even back when it was called Firebird, and before that Phoenix.
And it's not limited to Firefox - the
only browser I know that doesn't default to Esc cancelling the page loading is the text-only Lynx, where it's an optional feature (to not conflict with escape codes).
Although, I wonder what the deal is with mobile browsers - assuming a keyboard with an Esc key is installed (a lot don't), have the Android/iOS browser makers maintained that shortcut?
