thanks, yeah im still so giddy about the whole thing. ive never been able to afford one and now i still cant but it was my aniversary and my wife got me one so cool. its an hp xt118, basically a celeron 1.6 with 256 ddr and 30 gig drive so its not like top of the line but for me it is all that i need and then some more. (it beats my desktop actually)
oh and the place i got it from gets me some good deals cause i know the guy so i paid $600 for it and that makes it a little nicer too.
Congrats dude I been wanting one for quite a while also just haven't been able to work it into the budget yet. Maybe someday. Anyways sounds like you got a good deal now to Slackware it.
no its a pavillion, looks like its a lower end of the line maybe since it has the spot and the light where built in wireless would go if it had it.
pretty lights though
and shiny buttons

I got the ze 4230 and I love it. The pavilion laptop series seems really linux friendly to me. I got RH 9 up and smokin in no time flat. Every piece of hardware in this machine works like a champ, even the conexant winmodem.. Congrats and have fun..
Laptops indeed rock, about 2+1/2 years ago I picked up a P3 500Mhz Thinkpad from a .com firesale for $500, the poor thing has been through: Mandrake 8.0, RH 7.2, Slack 8.0 and Slack 8.1 and I think next up is OpenBSD. The thing weighs a ton, like 8lbs? maybe 9? I take it everywhere and beat the heck out of it. I've had to dissasemble it twice (I don't recommend stripping down a thinkpad), its just a tank.
Cool,
I really wanted to get a laptop but I opted instead for a cheaper desktop. It works fine but everytime I turn it on the three massive fans, my harddrive, and cd-rw make it sound like a leer jet taking off. Stuffing the case with foam helped
Good luck with slack

Congrats! I'm still saving to get myself a lappy. However the one i want costs quite a bit, around $2000. Heh, i saved $700 so far, another couple of years and i'll have it!
Congrats again man! I can just imagine how happy you are now!
