Failed Dependencies - Why?
 

does anyone want to explain to me why everytime i go to install a new program on linux it feels as if i just entered a heavyweight fight. more times then none, i recieve "failed dependencies" errors. easy right. just go to rpmseek.com and download the libraries you need in order for the install. yeah right, i only wish it was that easy. we all know what happens. more failed dependencies. being a linux newbie, these types of issues are the one that deter people that would like to get away from the windows operating system. i simply believe that allthough linux may be more stable, secure, and powerful then windows, installation of simple programs must be made easier in order to take over the "microsoft kicks a**" persona the majority of people in America have.

P.S. I ABSOLUTELY, 100 PERCENT, HATE FAILED DEPENDENCIES ISSUES. I'VE BEEN WORKING ON INSTALLING 3 SOUND ANALYZERS FOR OVER 3 DAYS NOW. THAT'S SICK.

Well, it's easy as long as you stick to stuff developed and tested especially for it, but installing other stuff can be a pain.

I didn't see an actual question as it looks more like a rant, moved to General where its more suitable.

Also try to refrain from posting in all caps as it comes off as you yelling at us and is rude. If you have a question, ask, were here to help but don't make it seem your frustrated with us, were the good guys you know.

relax trickykid....i'm not yelling at anyone....after all it's not anyone's fault on this site that is dettering me from being able to install these programs....it was more of a "what do you think" type of issue.....but at the same time technical as well....a question in which fancypiper answered well considering he did direct me towards some resources/documentation to help me out....so if my post doesn't fit in the "general" forum, personally i don't know where else to put it.

I am relaxed. I only do my part as a moderator to set things straight before emails start coming in of complaints.

And your thread is now in General, where it belongs or is more suitable. Your thread didn't come off as a qustion but a discussion type thread of frustration, which belongs in General, not Linux - General.

oh that's where the confusion must come from.....i thought i did post it in general....or rather that's where i wanted it to be posted.......hmmm.......anyways i know you are doing your job as a moderator.......however, the thread was intended on being a question as well as, what you liked to say, a "rant." and obviously fancypiper looked at it that way as well, considering he did direct me towards solutions for troubleshooting installation problems. if fancypiper didn't see this thread as a question, then he most defiently would have just inputted his thoughts on my so called "rant" and wouldn't have spent the energy copying and pasting url links.

anyways it really was an honest mistake, because i thought that i was posting it in the "General" section.

I have the same problem, and that problem is the biggest reason I haven't totally switched to linux.

All I'm trying to do is watch a dvd in bed on my laptop. It's been 3 days and I'm getting kinda pissed.

I just downloaded Fedora and am not sure where to go next.
(I'll post more if someone wants, but will refrain at this time so as to not hijack this thread).

yeah i hear what you are saying man....it's sorta like the things you take for granted using windows....sure it's not as stable, and sure it has some security issues....but when i want to watch a dvd using the windows OS all i have to do is pop the thing in my dvd drive and sure enough it starts playing......thats my problem....i love linux...but installation is a bitch......and it's not like i'm even trying to install something insanely huge....it's just a simple applet that sits on my panel and it still haven't gotten it completly figured out yet.......
