Hello guys,

I was browsing through NewsForge and was directed to this site by a link. What do you think of this?

Old news, their MS commissioned reports. The j2ee/linux one is probably the most well know. They way the measured it was so ridiculous people where making fun of it.

Oh so Linux is more expensive than windows... IF you add the cost of a complete Oracle System ( $10,000 ), and don't add anything similar to MS. Then yes it would be more expensive. If you used MySQL or PostgrateSQL... but somehow they missed that option out

Obviously it's a one-minded page trying to discredit Linux. Windows vs. Linux, yeah, right. More like Excellent Windows vs. Crappy Linux

oh, yeah, linux is always more expensive than windows sure

look, i support Micrsoft (this is NOT meant as flamebait so don't try!), but even I can realize that that page is just a bunch of empty rhetoric without anything to back it up. a bunch of meaningless unbased catch phrases don't make a truth.

I think this is funny to me, because I will tell people how Microsoft is so scared of Linux that they have to resort to mud slinging like an evil politician...

I saw the ad campaign from Microsoft when I got my latest issue of eWeek.

Big Yellow two page ad. Tell me they're not scared.

When people pay good money for ads like this, they are finally saying that they acknowledge that Linux is a threat. A BIG THREAT

Peace,
Whitehat

Talking Funny

I really love those Linux Vs Windows tests. Funny because Linux always loses, even if we all know it's winning (IBM pushing into it, hundreds of newbies appearing at forums like this everyday, countries as Israel nailing them... and etc), but still Linux is the bad guy.

Even cooler is that they never ever mention the expenses of handling virus, higher security needs and crashes which Windows the champion of it by the way....
Hilarious, as usual

Even more laughable is the well-known fact that Linux wasn't made to compete with Microsoft, it was made to work. And it does that quite well.

oh ^^
an extra page on M$.gov for Windoes vs. Linux ?
if windoes is *SO* much more better cost effective why do they even care about Linux ? =P
since customers would surely realize it by theirselfs and go back to winbloat ?
(I'm sure our NT admin would, since he has to restart his Exchange 2003 server every mornig because it hangs ^^)
I believe this is a really good page...it reflects M$'s fear of Linux ^^

oh, and someone should send a Email to RMS because they don't call it GNU/Linux ^^

(side note) i dont think its good to call it gnu/linux, cuse linux is the core of the os and cant be easly replaced (if u did it wont be linux ) but all of gnu stuff can easly be replaced (if someone actualy wanted to remake alota that stuff ie busybox) if you want to call it a long name it should be whatever interface you use/linux like enlightenment/linux , or kde/linux or gnome/linux , but they all end it linux so y not just stick with that (as long as people know that its only the core and teh rest of teh os isent realy linux, its jsut made for linux

just a note on that one...
how are you gonna easly replace gcc/binutils/....thousand of other things required to actually be able to build applications and do something with you're computer ? btw...the gnu system existed *before* linux, the only thing was missing was a kernel....so, no, the "rest of" wasn't really made especially for Linux^^ and hurd (the kernel that was originally ment to come in place) is still in development
I don't call it GNU/Linux either ...I call it liGNUx, the g is silent ^^
and what exactly does a Desktop/Windowmanager... have to do with the OS =P

thnks for clearing that up, just becaus some programs are probly overly hard to replace dont mean its impossible (its just a stupid point), as for the dektop, it makes more sence to call it by what it looks like (at least more sence tehn it is to call it my its subsytem (i think tahts the rigth word here)) anyway back to windows bashing -- i dono whats stupider, them testing there OS vers a linux OS (did they ever even mention what disrt it was?) and oviously making theres look better, or people for bieliving them (after all it was macro$shit funed, so why should anyone believe that the tests were remotly done fairly!, if tehy were then it could make tehm lose money )

The 2nd point is funny they compare mainframe (I am assuming multi-processor Sparc/MIPS/PowerPC like chips, I could not read the details in the pdf, download.microsoft.com was down) with cheap (relatively) intel boxes...

ITux, yeah that's the point I thought was funniest.

They compared a "WinTel"
to a Linux Mainframe when analyzing Total Cost of Ownership???

Just makes me laugh :-D
