Elon- President Musk
I wonder how most Americans feel about an un-elected person having direct control over the oval office?

Yes, at some point he may do that. Elon gives President Trump his much needed cash for legal expenses. It may be some time before the President fires Elon.

I do too. I'm reminded of the phrase. "You get what you pay for." (the double entendre was not intended, but...)

A Republican fantasy.

His lawyers work pro bono - he stiffs them. There'll be no shortage of people putting money into his pocket. All they have to do is buy his cryptocurrency. Justin Sun has purchased $18M.

More likely he will resent the attention he gets. The most effective tactic against Liddle Donnie would be to ignore him.

Because he cares about nothing so much as his purse his presidency is for sale.

Linuxquestions is not political.
Every politician has backers.
The only best politician is yourself.
My mother was a diehard Democrat. Would not vote outside that party no matter how bad the candidate or question was. Is that any good?

Isn't that the truth. We are all arm chair quarterbacks ... so to speak. Some of us do actually dig for facts and figures rather than just listen (to and quote) the talking heads. I used to think I could vote for the best candidate from those running... But not really anymore. The Democrats have went so far left, they are not even on the same planet with all their pushing of woke, globalization, anti-military, anti-history, anti-america, open borders, cancel culture, climate crazy, anti-gun, anti-religion, the squad, anti free speech (political correctness gone mad), and recently pardoning death row inmates, etc. ... Glad we got someone in office that actually cares about the country.

We have a few relatives like that too. The lemming voters as we call 'em. Don't talk politics at family gatherings as it only makes 'em mad (why I don't understand). Can't have a rational discussion it seems as when presented with facts it just makes 'em huffy. In fact, I have an uncle who wouldn't even talk to his brother for a long time when he found out who he voted for....

I agree 100%! The General forum here at LQ doesn't have a political bias, that is, people from all political parties are free to post here without being censored.
Back on topic. I do hope that the President fires Musk. In my opinion he's bad for American middle class people.

yes not politics literally, but politics figuratively,
in other words I think the reason linuxquestionsforums.org is filled with so many people
relentlessly harassing other people, and even threatening them, is precisely,
because they have a political interest, in the figurative sense of the word:
they want to influence people broadly, via the medium, of the internet,
and influence how they think about the world, and what decisions they make.
And of course they really hate it when people intelligently represent
exactly what they're doing, and how it's manipulative, instead of productive,
they're very defensive about their political activity on linuxquestions.org (in the figurative sense)

Donald is not yet the president. Going by Donald's temperament and history it would be fascinating how long will limelight hogging, cathedral sized egos co-exist post the swearing in. Right now there is a lot of noise coming out. The fun will start post January.
Vivek and Elon Musk will have their day of reckoning too. The Chinese have a proverb, hope you live in interesting times. Well things are going to get spectacularly interesting in this single and last term of Donald Trump. Not trade war. Not US-Russia proxy war in Ukraine. Not Israel-Iran proxy war in Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen. This is going to be the one to watch. I have my popcorn ready.........

Agree. 'General' has had some spirited and lively discussions but that is what makes it a great place to express one's opinion.

Lol, so was mine until they caught Bill 'Slick Willy' Clinton playing 'doctor' in the Oval Office. Straight Republican after that.

When it comes to politics, "diehard anything," is not a good position to maintain. It's not football. You can change your vote if your chosen party tables policies you disagree with. You should vote for policies, not parties.
Samuel Clemens (a.k.a. Mark Twain) had the best philosophy about politics: " Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect."

What about the extreme right? Writing laws and setting policies based on conspiracy theories. Whitewashing racism from history in favor of saying that slavery was good for black people. Project's 2025 plan to dismantle civil rights. Embracing white supremacy and Christian nationalism. The right's (or Trump's) hypocrisy of free speech is to stifle anyone that disagrees or says anything bad about them/him. They should be the arbiters of acceptable speech, for the good of society.
The death row inmates sentences were commutated (sp?) not pardoned. Their sentences are now life without parole.
