EFF resigns W3C over rubber stamped DRM/EME
An open letter to the W3C Director, CEO, team and membership
There's also a pretty revealing twitter thread, if you don't mind reading it: https://twitter.com/w3c/status/909922300358746113 It's not really a news that big biz gives consumers the short end of the stick, but still it makes my blood boil. What do you people think? |
Since I'm pretty sure this was a massive contributor to Flash's demise, I'm not complaining.
|
It doesn't yet make my blood boil but it certainly is cause for active concern and continued, even increased, awareness. I honestly dislike the stranglehold Adobe enjoyed with Flash but it's demise may be "small potatoes" to the threat of not only DRM but DRM controlled by one small group. It is difficult to imagine a worse scenario than the web becoming entirely a "walled garden" with bullies controlling both access and content.

Having carefully read this "open letter" four times, I frankly find it to be little more than doublespeak.
