East coast rap, or west coast rap?

Or another regional rap style?

Me == West Coast rap. It's the D R E for me.

As you can see, I'm taking another breather from programming.

PS: Lets not let this get too heated, I don't want any bodies dropping like they were on ice here.

IMO Black/Death metal is better. I recommend "Cradle of Filth", "Dark Funeral", "Bal-Sagoth", "Arcturus", etc. :)

i fell out of rap when it got all cop killing and "n*ggr" this, and n*gger" that. still listen to a bit of public enemy occasionally. i heard a few good 9th wonder instrumentals recently too.

Hehehe, does that still exist? I grew up with Death, Obituary, Entombed and Morbid Angel.
Ah, memories...

Rap sucks. Big time.

There's a C missing from the beginning of rap.

Bits of both for me. I listen to Wu-Tang more than anyone else, though.

Mixed opinion

For the most part, I also have the same opinion about rap.. It sucks. Though, there are SOME exceptions. For example: Aerosmith+Run DMC "Walk This Way", Anthrax+Public Enemy "Bring The Noise" , Faith No More's Epic. I think when rap first emerged from the late 1970s to up before 'gangsta' rap, it wasn't just tolerable, some of it was actually pretty cool in my opinion. Once 'gangsta' rap however came out, I did quickly lose interest, and now they went from that to simply just talking about smoking 'weed' and other crap.

Now since I also mentioned Public Enemy+Anthrax and Faith No More. That was also the first time the whole rap/metal came together, but back then it was pretty good. I am not referring to Linkin Park or any of the new/(nu-metal) crap.

At this point, I kind of become less picky when it comes to music. I do find myself listening to SOME rap (old-school non-gangsta). I did and still consider myself a metal head, but so far not a whole lot of bands out there in the US that are worth listening to. I do like Metallica, everything until their St. Anger album (bleh!), but mostly I find myself listening to more EuroMetal, like Children of Bodom, Soilwork, if it is anything new.

I also find myself listening to more classic rock, from Zepplin, to Floyd, and also have a pretty sizable collection of classical works (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart). Someone once told me they were surprised that a metal head such as myself would listen to such classical stuff, but I replied "How couldn't I?" I mean seriously, without those works, and even the works of Wagner, metal would be nonexistant, as well as any other forms of music.

Anyways, when it comes to rap, it DID have the potential for great creativity, and I think it still does, but right now it is too self-absorbed in drugs, and too much objectifying of women to have anything worthwile to say.

Here are some links to some rap, and rap/rock/metal stuff that are worth checking out though:

With ref to the zshare link, I have delinked it. As the track is uncredited we have no way of knowing which licence it is released on and so, to avoid LQ becoming part of the RIAAs latest crusade, you need to manually follow it.

I think if Kurt Cobain of Nirvana would hear some of the shit that was out here today he would roll around in his grave! My preference is none to the question , I am a Rock/Grundge/Punk/Metalhead :)

Same here, and I really liked the Seattle scene. Nirvana was excellent, but my all time favorite Seattle band was Soundgarden. Chris Cornell and Kim Thayl were great. Pearl Jam was great back then, and the brief project between the few members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, called Temple of The Dog.

I agree with kessler (this time :)) and Jeebizz in their opinions that gangsta rap is c-rap. Don't understand why rap has to be about violence, drugs and sex.

Back in the late 80's early 90's, radio rap was ok. Did like the record scratching and legible lyrics.

Don't laugh, but I actually like Will Smith's rap music, originally known as "Fresh Prince". Fun stuff to listen to, and didn't have to worry about language.
