Dual Boot Boggle
 

Hi,

Well, my friends finally convinced me to drop Windows and head over to Linux. I installed Ubuntu 12.10 (I am sure that's the one), and I am very happy with it - although I still have a video playback issue to deal with regarding Amazon Instant Video.

But I digress...

Here's my problem. I am dual-booting because there is some software I use that doesn't seem to want to play with Linux. When I boot into Windows, my speaker jack doesn't work.

Speakers/jack work in Linux, though.

I don't have a lot of options I have not tried. I know it's not the headphones, jack or sound card drivers. Most of what is in the RealTek sound panel is greyed out in Windows, and it doesn't seem to even see the headphones.

While I may be a Noob on Linux, I am near expert on Windows (former MCSE), and this has even me perplexed. An Internet search reveals many with the same problems, but the usual replies consisting of the same old questions about broken jacks, bad headphones and very easy Windows solutions that I've already tried.

So where exactly the problem is... in dual boot or in headphone jack, which isn't working in Windows?

I believe it to be a problem with Windows, only because it is - after all - Windows. Everything works GREAT in Ubuntu, but since installing it, my headphones don't work. None of them. I've got everything from cheap dime-store ear buds to $300.00 broadcast cans. When I plug in the phones, nothing. In fact, the 'headphones' option isn't even listed. It's like Windows is not even recognizing that there's a headphone jack on the kit.

While I understand that this is a Linux board, nobody in the Windows community seems to have any solution for this. I'd rather ditch Windows, altogether, as Ubuntu seems to cater to all my needs, except that I cannot get Audacity to record off my sound card. If I could figure this out, I'd never boot into Windows again. Ever...
