hi. im asking this out of curousity because i've found that with firefox's address bar a lot of times i don't have to put in the www and .com just the site name and it will bring me to the site. But also i've used boolean logic like ut + demo + linux and it brought me to ut2004's download page where i could download the linux demo. I know it doesn't just add a www. and .com to the name because i've typed in gimpshop and it has brought me to the site which is something like www.plasticbugs.com or something. I was just curious if anyone knew how it does this. Does it connect to google and do a search or something and brings you to the first result? thanks for any responses in advance.

You are right. When you put something that is not a URL, it gives you the first result of google (like pressing the "I feel lucky" button in google).

If you pay attention at the bottom left of the window in firefox (where you seen the "Done") on a search like this, you'll see "www.google...." before it connects you to the result site
