Do you get tired fixing your family and friends WINDOWS computer?
 

If people are going to make WINDOWS their primary OS. they should find time to learn about it, like the basics. And have some sense of cybersmarts. They still continue to open attachments and/or links in their emails from unknown sources and you continuously warned them not to do that.

When their computers get bombarded with pop ups or other issues, they call me for help.

It becomes tiring after awhile and repetitive.

Sometimes I want to say to them to try linux, but the though of them calling me 24/7 to fix their linux issues deters me from doing so.

I just wish they learn to use their windows OS and be smart about opening attachments and/or links. :-/

That's why I bought my brother a Chromebook for his birthday.

all i do now is inform them of the security issues and virus threats
( except for the 80 year old Aunt that still mails me the " pass it on cute pics" viruses )

Mostly, they don't need much help, because they are careful and cautious users of the internet, so they don't get viruses and such.

My girlfriend occasionally has a question along the lines of "How do I uninstall this toolbar that the Adobe Java update installed with asking permission?" (Yeah, Adobe's doing that now with Ask.com stuff. They did it to my Win7 box also.) I'm happy to help with those questions.

Also, my family and friends are scattered all over the country.

I was pleasantly impressed by First Daughter recently. Her laptop screen had broken and she called for advice, but she had already figured out that, before she went out and looked for a replacement or repair, she should hook it up to a monitor to see whether it was the screen or the whole computer (it was the display).

The poll is missing an option. I never fix Windows computers so whether I am tired of doing so is a non-question.

Absolutely, as such I refuse to fix them most of the time.

Since I've never had a computer running Windows, I can truthfully plead total ignorance and escape!

No.

Because she cooks a mean dinner and does not complain or get tired of it.
And No. She does not wish to touch my ChromeOS Netbook or my Linux Laptops.

I have offered numerous times.

There is one good point to this. They give me money to fix their computers. But is is still tiring.

If Momma-Bear's hand-me-down Windows XP/SP3 laptop needs fixing, it gets fixed.
That is all the "family and friends" that I have.

I fixed them, if reinstalling means that. But actually they worked well without problems, for years...

The only time I maintain such a computer is if it runs Windoze-only software that won't run well through wine.

Very much so, thats why when I got my parents a new computer, I installed Slackware on it. They use it for web surfing and email, so an i5 with 16gb and 1GB NVIDIA should last them a number of years.

Linux has pretty much made me rather lazy, since it doesn't break unless due to user error and even then you have to try. Thats why I like Slackware though because it keeps you on your toes, and I can administer it effortlessly.

One by one by one, all of my family members switched to Macintoshes.

I have never maintained a Mac and don't intend to.
