Distribution of my dreams! EXIST?

why not, why not to write this.. incredible, aafter months of searching a distribution that satisfy me.. i found it.

but what do i call "satisfation".. whell, for sure is gonna be different for everybody, i have figured oout that this, linux, is like women, some one u like! some others, you just DONT.

i have my r3000Z, AMD-64, and i had to use x86-64 Dist. of course. so this is what i have tried.:

1. SuSe 9.2: !@#$ SLOW. 100000 years booting up. KDE crasshes all the time with "CPU overload"

2. FC3/ FC4/Test3: Nvidia drivers? come on fedora team? at this point? users gotta deal almost 3 to 4 "HowTos" to install that. MP3!!? MP3 gotta be like "vesa" or something so STANDARD.

3. Kubuntu: Pretty near to my satisfaction concept.. but it is all mess up with Gnome things.. the kind of derived it from Ubuntu? lets see the next release. (no kernel sources, some problem with that and the package on the repositories)

4. Mandrake: Everythig is SO AUTOMATICLLY that i dont even feel im using linux.. dont know more reason because i didnt like it.. i just didnt.

5. knoppix: Problem with Nvidia drivers...bla bla/

(yes yes i like KDE, Gnome is too ugly. sorry people who likes speed.. but with machines today we should be getting worry about those things)

Maybe some of the normal and typical problems you just read above are piece of !@#$ for you, it is so easy, and you can like notice that i dont have even a year on this..
Yes, maybe is like that, but let me tell you, people like me is what Linux needs, because im leaving Windows, and thats what linux needs.. more and more people leaving windows.. and with distribution that keeps giving you stupid and bothering problems.. u huh.. it will just be for Software people, people with time... and with knowlege.. imagine a doctor trying to get rid of window? hehe.

anyway, i tried to solve the problems, i didnt run out at the first problem, i tried and tried, and after i changed distributions..

BUT NOW.. oooo.. this is perfect..

The distribution of my deams! KANOTIX! (lo mejor que he probado! )

first time that i have 2 weeks without booting up WINDOWS... feel just free.. i have here everything workingg.. i just installed other things i needed with no bbig problems.. i have a great help available..
GOD. this is perfect.

i didnt know what foroum to use, but this is a General one, who knows.. see you guys.. i just wanted to let people know what my experience in Linux had become to.

debian doesn't have an officially supported AMD64 port though. It has one in the process of becoming official, but it won't be officially supported until etch becomes stable. the debian developers decided it would be too much work to get it up to speed w/ the sarge release. I believe it is still missing a 64-bit version of openoffice.org as well

slackware ruuuuuules! i liked suse but in the version i used (9.0), the package handling was abysmal. mandrake was very impressive for a noob's distro, and i really like knoppix and slax for live cds. i have heard a lot of bad stuff about debian tho. gentoo is supposed to be good.

ur right tho, gnome is pretty ugly. kde used to be my GUI of choice but now i am a 100% fluxbox addict - it is easily the best GUI out there.

Welcome to the world of Linux and Debian. I used Kanotix to install Debian Sid on my desktop and laptop
both worked from the first time I booted.
I guess I am rather spoiled all my Firefox plugins(flash, adobe)[java came installed] were so easy to install.Even mplayer was just apt-get install mplayer along with the win32codecs. Realplayer was the same.

Debian is the WAY to go. Kanotix is just a tad more bleeding edge than Knoppix or any of the other Livecds.

I alternate between KDE and IceWM. Tried Gnome for a week, I never will understand how people can use it.

the problem with gnome is i can never really see the place for it. it is more refined and faster than kde yes, but it is also slower than flux, larger and less attractive. if you want a holistic, friendly and good looking GUI go for kde, if u want a serious refined one go for flux (or enlightenment etc...)

oo having said that this is a nice desktop: http://www.usrportage.de/screenshots...09-01-2005.png

how did he get full window transparency in gnome?

I have to agree. Kanotix64 is great! Easy to install. Easy nvidia driver install. Everything works. Great support.

don't go that far ;-P
fluxbox may be the best for x11

but OSX has the best GUI, Expose is actually a good way of managing windows

My favourite GUI has to be KDE. Second favourite - though most of you don't like it - is GNOME. They're both great and both provide a good experience, even though KDE may be slightly better for people trying Linux for the first time.

Mr.New: For the ֹ, I think that if you just install the French language you should be able to get it from there by switching to the French keyboard layout (assuming your keyboard is English or American) and pressing the "2" key.

i think simplistic GUIs such as fluxbox do have amazing advantages over kde and the others, and the main reason that most people dont use them is that they cant use a GUI with no help boxes or anything similar. as much as i used to love kde, my system is so much more stable, memory efficient, predictable, attractive and controllable with flux.

so what is all this kanotix talk anyway? ill be honest - ive never heard of it! lol i am not one to condemn what i havent tried however and the more distributions the better!! is it good then?

ייייטטטאשצהאי A really cool way to get the international alphabet symbols is with a virtual keyboard such as xvkbd, just switch the keyboard layout and you have access to most countries alphabet.
