Did you remove the MS Windows sticker of your Computer/PC/Notebook?

Hi,

Another poll to see how much Unix are the computers of LQ... ;)

More infos about the danger of these stickers. Who knows what's inside these stickers ;)

Those stickers are advertisements. I don't advertise Windows.

I assume you've removed the windows logo dead key as well?

ahmedwaqas92 07-06-2017 09:11 AM

I haven't necessarily posted much on LQ however just recently my Windows logo sticker from the front of my 2011 Dell Inspiron N5110 fell off by itself.

I hadn't really bothered because ever since I've started using Linux and FreeBSD I now completely understand how much my dear uncle was ripped off earlier when he presented me the latter, as a graduation gift, when I successfully completed my A levels

My laptop ran so hot with Linux that the sticker parted ways without much of my input.

You need a third option on the poll. I've not had to peel off any Windows (R) stickers from any laptops since the 1990's because that was the last time I had any hardware with Windoze pre-installed.

But it's kind of moot these days. I've looked at the big box stores occasionally to see what they have and though all of their notebook machines are infected with Vista10, there is not a single Windows (R) sticker on any of them. The brand has become a liability.

I peel off the Intel sticker.

My desktop I built myself. It has three stickers: AMD, the penguin, and the gnu. My laptop just has a "Powered by Linux" sticker. On both, the Super key is correctly labeled, as are Comp (compose), GS (group shift), and TLS (third-level shift).

And where you can get a replacement with Unix logo, is there any open/GNU Unix logo besides?

I hope this makes sense that I voted "Yes" because I haven't had a Windows sticker on any of my PCs for around 25 years since I never buy OEM PCs but build my own. My first GUI was not Windows but OS/2 and my very first PC was a Tandy 8086 that predated Windows and had no stickers other than Radio Shack/Tandy. Come to think of it even the couple laptops I've owned didn't have Windows stickers as I buy those used and usually stripped. So I don't think I have ever had a Windows stickered computer and that mildly pleases me. :)

I considered this one back in the day

Yes, of course.

I thought they were warning signs?

No, I need them for the "I'm from microsoft and there's a problem with your windows" phone calls (they keep wanting me to press it for some reason).

Remove all stickers except for the product key sticker.

mralk3 07-06-2017 08:07 PM

I didn't vote because my laptop(s) has/have a penguin key and a penguin sticker.

petelq 07-07-2017 07:09 AM

I voted yes because I removed it from a previous computer. This one I've had for some time and I put it together from cannibalised parts of previous ones with a new case.
