Desktop Resolution

"What is your desktop Resolution?"
a. Above 1024 x 768
b. 1024 x 768
c. 800 x 600
d. Below 800 x 600
The first one is for monitors with the standard resolutions above 1024 x 768, mostly applicable for 17" onwards monitors....

The last one is simply kept....just in remote cases...any one using...a low resolution (due to missing graphics driver ;-) )

Please poll..

Just as good as it is for Windows or Mac. I have an LCD and I am sure several other people do.

I use 1280x1024 for a 17" Nec LCD monitor. When I had a 19" I went like 1600x1400.

darkleaf 05-20-2005 03:42 PM

1280*1024 on a 15' screen. Why are high resolutions only for large screens? Everything looks huge on 1024*768

My mom's new Suse system runs on a 19" Acer LCD. It is fscking beautiful!! I come back to my house with my wimpy Sony G420 CRT 20" and I think to myself...only $300....only $300...

To answer the questions, the new X.org drivers work really well. I have had no issues with my system (ATI 7500) or my mom's (Nvidia GX5200).

1280x1024 on my new Samsung SyncMaster 930b 19" LCD.
It's so much nicer (brighter & eaisier on the eyes) than my old CRT.

makuyl 05-21-2005 04:22 AM

1280 x 1024 on a el cheapo LG Flatron L1730S LCD.
Tried 1024 x 768 but it was just too large.

Venefyxatu 05-21-2005 06:34 AM

1600x1200 on my main 19" CRT screen.
800x600 on my secondary 14" CRT screen (2nd computer).

For reference : I answered the poll with my main screen :)

1400x1050 on 15" laptop lcd
all my desktops are headless atm

vharishankar 05-25-2005 10:24 PM

1024*768 because I think I found that it's best for my eyes at a good refresh rate while not straining my eyes too much to read text (which will be to small at higher resolutions).

Mega Man X 05-25-2005 10:26 PM

1280X1024 in a 17 CRT for me. I found 1024x768 too big. Willing to get a 17" LCD or a 21 CRT, can't decide :)

redhatrosh 05-25-2005 11:40 PM

Thanks for all the votes......I am assuming ...there are more ppl who wud like to vote. Please do so...

Megaman X....

Advantage of LCD....less strain on eyes and comparatively less power consumption than CRT..

Disadvantage of LCD.....a bit expensive.....specific native resolution....so cannot change resolution and requires tweaking....

Advantage of CRT... different resolutions and compatively easier availability

Disadvantage of CRT....power consumption higher and strain on eyes....

is what I have read....from various sources....

Mega Man X 05-26-2005 12:06 AM

Thanks a lot redhatrosh. I never got very technical on the differences between LCD and CRT's, but at the work they have some LCD's and I must say, it's great to read text on it. Nice brightness too. I think I will get one when I can afford. Even if it's not very fast, since I don't game much on PC's anyway :)

One thing that I always am worried about (without willing to get off-topic), however, is the durability of LCD's. I've seen many, many selling second hand LCD's with dead pixels, so I believe they are not very reliable, or are they?

Thanks again!

redhatrosh 05-26-2005 05:06 AM

LCD's with dead pixels are not good at all...
If one is doing "ONLY" text work or work related to typing and just saving files....not with much graphics into picture...then..LCD with dead pixels is fine....

But this case is rare...and hence they are not at all recommended.

I dont know about second hand LCD's being sold....wherever it might be....

But I strongly feel, you shouldn't go for a second hand LCD...

Go for a small 15" LCD...but dont go for second hand
