I think with XHTML they tried to move all formatting to CSS (even tho nothing supports this 100% yet). In theory it's a good idea, because if you want to reformat your site you can just make some small changes in the CSS instead of searching through the HTML. However, I think only konqueror is fully css compliant. I think standards should be made with a bit more consideration. Really, the W3C should make the software to implement its standards, make it FLOSS, then everything might just work like it should.
