Oh man, my roots are in Debian.
No not Ubuntu debian as the first distro I used full time was Mepis linux in 2005 or so.
My thoughts go out to his family
My thoughts also go out to his family but even more importantly to his closest friends and co-workers. I sincerely hope what appears to be his familys' actions of taking down his blogs is a temporary measure and Ian will ultimately get to "have his say", literally his "deathbed appeals". The Truth is almost always better than imagination. At least people learn real lessons from the truth. His life should at least account for that.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of a man who has given me so much and getting nothing in return. I, too, feel for his family and friends.
I think it is also horrific that any discussion of this will have to involve a discussion of a US police force brutalising a suspect "for fun" and its relevance to his death.
However I sincerely hope that this will be investigated and that justice will be done -- the man himself may have killed himself wanting only that he be remembered by the criminals within the police being punished.

The American police are nothing more than a criminal organization without accountability. The grand jury is a joke. The police unions make sure they get off every time

There is a thread on this forum suggesting that, out of respect, speculation should not happen.
I understand that and do agree so, I suppose, we should wait to hear for more information? This, sadly, is something which needs to be public and I know if it were somebody close to me I would want their feelings to be shared.
Apologies, the tone of his updates hit a chord.

We do know for a fact that he was in fact arrested. I have no problem with speculation and I have no doubt in my mind that police were abusive towards him.
This is very much like what happened to Aaron Schwartz

I am concerned that his family and friends will see this and that people who did not know him speculating about his life is offensive but from the record he left in this life I think he was trying to show something.
The first Linux distro I used was the original RedHat version 4.2 (back before there was a Fedora).
The first Linux I really RAN and felt in control was Debian.
Ian changed the world, and made it better. The world would have been a better place, I am convinced, had he lived longer.

I had the same experience using both Red Hat and then Debian. My sentiments about Ian are also the same. It's a bloody shame.

Debian founder Ian Murdock passed away in his 40's unexpectedly because of unknown circumstances and questionable events
I guess that does not fit in the title box.
Either way. He is gone now. But history will remember him.
Happy Trailz, Ian.
