Covid-tracing apps: Here's how they work
 

I found this interesting article via the Protonmail newsletter. It describes the different protocols that are being used in various parts of the world for covid-19 contact-tracing apps: how they work and how they protect (or don't protect!) privacy.

who cares, if you don't like it, you'll get your term or you may leave the country. that's what the gov would tell you.
nobody is here to protect your data. nobody gains from it. it's your own job. but it's also your job to let the gov do whatever they need, without respect for constitution, yes.
as much as we all understand the need to trace, majority in the gov also see this as a great opportunity to get more control, especially so in regimes.

Google & Apple once again make it look like they're the good guys but I'm sure they're already exploring new potential of a new door built into their OSs.

I have heard that bluetooth protocol explained in varying degrees of nerdiness half a dozen times, I'm sure I get it now.
But that's only the OS providing the sensors, the apps are built around that. Individually in each country.

The Germans went Opensource, which in itself is extremely cool.
It's also decentralised.
They also said that 60% of the population are required to use the app to see some effect only if there's no other measures in place. By their - doubtlessly overly optimistic - calculations as little as 15% are enough to create a measurable ripple.
