connecting two pcs
I have a pc with a lan connection to internet.
And i want to connect that pc to another i have two lan cards but i dont now if they are bidirectionals .
Im going to try to discribe the card to see if someone can say something about it (dtrivers, capabilits): it has a stiker that says "designed for win nt , 98; in another part says LB 16PT8515 0022;and in other part says 25.000M; and on the small board says TJ-2 94VO , P/N:52-0000182-00,FCC; on the 8 pins connector says 11C TEST OK; on the other side has two leds green and yellow the green says 100/LNK/ACT the yellow says 10/LNK/ACT.
Will thoses cards do a connection betwen two pcs?

well, you've not mentioned models or manufacturers, so i can 't say if theres any known problems, but two NIC's will work together no problem. you'll need a modified ethernet cable thop, if you don't intend on using a hub.

install both cards, and configure them -properly, make sure they're on the same network mask etc.. and you should be fine

If you get a "cross over cable" you can do a direct pc to pc conection, but basic hubs are cheap and give you the option to expand the network at a later date.

the manufacturer i dont now but it says RMC RTL 8139C 0621S1 023B TAIWAN and the pc says it is a realtk rtl 8139(A/B/C/8130) PCI FAST ETHERNET NIC and i try to install drives and it doesnt install it, and how can i make a modified ethernet cable thop?

simply cos patch cables are cheaper, i adapt them by hand...

cut it in half, ignore the blue and brown pairs, and join orange to green and green to orange. bosh.

it looks like your just trying to install the cards under windows are you? in that case, it's very simple, just make sure you add tcp/ip; netbios; and ipx/spx protocol, for best performance

Yes im trying to do it under win 98se i have cut the cable but it got 8 cables insid blue, orange, green, black, witte, red, brown, yellow how sould i do it? and i have another problem the drivers dont work i dont now why? both pcs have dfi boards ak74-ec and pa61.

Is possible to do this for win98se and mandrake 8.0 ?or both pcs sould have the same os.

acid_kewpie 09-29-2001 05:33 PM

separate os's are very very fine, it all comes down to internet packets at the end of the day.

yeah.. ok the cables....

green to orange
orange to green
white/green to white/orange
white/orange to white/green

i got very confused by the other wires, but they're not used.. no really.. just look at the connector sockets on the network cards... not soldered on.

The 2 pcs dont not need to have the same OS if you are gonna connect to the net over a lan but they will need to have TCP/IP installed and you will need some kind os proxy software on the mechine with the modem (if it is win32 try mailgate ( but if the mechines both use a differnt OS you may want to use samba so that you transfer files accross.
