SF 47 — Amendment to the concealed carry firearms and weapons laws

“I have had a lot of questions on that,” Bohling said of SF 47. “It’s really pretty simple.”

SF 47 amends Statute 6-8-104 to remove the requirement that a person obtain a permit to carry a concealed deadly weapon.

Bohling said nonresidents, convicted felons and others who are not allowed to conceal carry today will still not be allowed to carry a concealed weapon after July 1.

In addition, people will still not be allowed to carry concealed weapons in certain places such as bars, schools, churches and government buildings.

“You will be subject to all the restrictions and rules that govern people who get a permit,” Bohling said. “What this really was, was for those people who don’t travel a lot outside of the state and felt that it was a burden and an imposition on them to carry a concealed weapon and have to go through that permit process.”

Currently, Statute 6-8-104 requires that people prove they can handle a firearm with proficiency in order to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

“What the language of the statute says is ‘demonstrates proficiency with a firearm,’” Bohling said. “It has a long list of things, which includes completing a hunter’s safety course (and) taking an NRA-certified firearms course.”

Former law enforcement officers and military veterans can obtain a concealed carry permit if they can prove they receive firearms training.

But after July 1, people will no longer be required to complete a firearms training class to conceal carry legally. Bohling said this shouldn’t be a cause for concern, however, since the requirements to show proficiency were not strict in the first place.

“It’s, basically, just wanting to ensure that you know which end of the gun to point at the bad guy,” he said. “It’s not nearly as extensive as some folks think.”

No he / she / it doesn't. Please don't attack my beliefs and apply what I perceive to be your misconceptions to others who do not agree with you.

Personally I agree with carrying weapons, as long as they are just guns and not some more destructive.

If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

Besides, guns are probably the best crime prevention.

Sorry you feel that way. My words weren't meant as an attack. I have to remind you that you first posted "Well that's totally screwed up." and "How any intelligent country can refuse to acknowledge evolution is astounding.".

Many Christians and Jews don't subscribe to the "Young Earth" interpretation of the Bible and believe that evolution can be "some" of the answer to our existence.

Which one of the many thousands of deities the human imagination has dreamed up over the centuries would you be referring to here?

I said what I thought. I did not force anyone to be involved in my beliefs against their will, I merely stated what I think. You can think that God thinks whatever you want about you, or whatever an Nth generation translation of chinese whispers about generally good stories about how to be a good person possibly tell you to think. Don't say that it applies to others. God can not love me.

"Waahhh, my owner won't let me defend myself or have an ounce of independence, thus anyone who has such things sucks, and I shall say so whenever I get the opportunity (because it makes me feel better about being owned.. after all... everyone belongs to somebody.... right?)"

Seriously, though.. If you can't handle the responsibility of keeping yourself and your family sustained and stable, then don't reproduce, don't speak of your beliefs, and don't associate with others. Doing these things propagates undesirable mental disorders which promote the collapse of civilizations.

Wow, I don't quite know what to say about that little two year old's temper tantrum. We grew up. We do all those things without the need for weapons to prop our ego's on. We're all quite confident in the size of our manhoods and don't need to compensate, thanks.

You are so much safer than us with your guns.

Why didn't I see it before?

My GOD can and does love you right up to the end of your existence after which it is to late. Belief in a tenet generally compels one to action, therefore I will pray for you.

Send acid_kewpie some nail clippers, its more useful than praying. After all, if acid_kewpie keeps his (her?) nails short that will delay ragnarok. :D

Of course, you can always support letting untrained people walk around with concealed weapons, that will offset a lot of short nails as far as ragnarok goes......

Swizerland is there. How many of those people were commiting a crime at the time ? Also take into account the kind of people that are there, i.e. hoodlums, gangstas, etc. How about also adding other types of deaths, like knives, etc ?

What you really need is a before and after guns chart. Of course if you have guns people are going to die by guns, if you have knives people are going to die by knives, etc. Try to analyze the data beyond what they give you.

All the people in the world who pray for tsunami victims and the likes makes me feel ill. Why not actually do something useful or donate money rather than just clearing ones own conscience with some pointless words. Praying is NOT action. It's just selfish.

+1.

Criminals will (and do) always find ways to get their hands on firearms. Average law-abiding citizens won't if they are illegal.

In the case where a country's police force is well-equipped, well trained and well-staffed, the need for every citizen to own a weapon is probably reduced significantly.
But in my country for example the police force is none of this. For example, until 2008 the metropolitan police (Polícia de Segurança Pública) carried 30-year-old 7.65mm (.32ACP) Walthers while criminals carried Glocks, Berettas or whatever the hell they wanted. As for training I don't think they're even required to "hit the range" periodically and practice targetting.

I'm actually in favour of concealed carry. If criminals don't know who's carrying weapons they'll think twice before attempting a car-jacking or mugging.

As for Europe having "moved on", Switzerland remains an example of a civilized and peaceful society that requires its citizens to own assault rifles and also allows carrying weapons with a proper permit.

What makes you think that I don't?

Most Christian denominations believe that faith has both prayer and "good works" as part of the foundation of belief.

Well that's obviously the starting point. There's naturally no significant formal proof that it has ever had any effect though. Plenty of heresay of course. Fundamentally though I don't see any movement from these two conflicting views. I know you're wrong and that those offering prayers have achieved nothing other than satisfying their own guilt whilst many people died in these tragedies. You however "know" your prayers work, and with such a framework like religion where it's always impossible to prove of disprove it then you can't be proved that your words are pointless.

I would certainly be genuinely personally offended if someone offered to pray for me.
