In some respects, if it's actually still true that "Necessity is the Mother of Invention", rolling blackouts might be just what we need to overcome the foolishly reactionary negativity over nuclear power. I suppose some are smelling money in it already since more than one smaller startup is making major headway in real Fusion Power, closing in on more power out than in, a Holy Grail if there ever was or to be one.
"SHANGHAI, Sept 28 (Reuters) - China approved 15 gigawatts of new coal-fired power capacity and another 30 million tonnes of coal-based iron-making capacity in the first half of this year, despite falling power and steel demand over the period, new research showed on Wednesday." https://www.reuters.com/markets/comm...ch-2022-09-28/
when we stand back, we realise mankind is failing to govern himself in a way catastrophic for our planet's present and short term future. We are with full knowledge allowing long term ruin & permanent extinction to facilitate short term profit by fossil fuel giants.
There are huge implications, but an exposition of them probably wouldn't be welcomed, so PM me if you're curious.

Catastrophe waiting to happen or what?
@business_kid linked news about fir trees dying in western U.S. forests. Forest death began decades ago with drought stress opening opportunity for insect infestation. which had killed myriads of forest trees (not just firs) prior to the stresses of Climate Change becoming readily apparent. Bark beetles and Gypsy Moths contributed substantially to our presently moribund forests.
I cannot look to the status quo for viable alternatives, as an article or two in The Nation expounds upon. I distrust our leaders to courageously act towards a solution. See https://www.thenation.com/article/ac...direct-action/
Earth will have the last word for those placing trust in human solutions, I am afraid.
It's probably very bad news for the Arctic. It's been warming faster than anywhere. Now when all that cold comes down from the Arctic, enough to freeze the Excited States pretty solid, what's left to keep the ice frozen up there? It must have been replaced by warmer air
Global Warming, Global Cooling.... It is no wonder the fanatics changed there manta to just 'climate change'. Covers all bases and keeps the funding coming no matter what the weather does .
Yes, rclark, Chicken Little fanatics do exist BUT that doesn't dismiss the fact that CO2 levels are rising because of humans and that will definitely affect climate badly. Why would anyone but myopic Big Oil management and provincial puppets buy into the opposite pole of "Nothing to see here. Move along"?
