@TorC: Thanks for that. I personally don't see a basis for hope in humans, because those who are doing something about global warming are doing too little, too late. And many interests push them in the opposite direction. We are certainly not reining in climate change. As I write this. mainland Europe is forecast to have another very hot week this week. Water is running out, rivers are drying up or at all time lows, and there's real danger to harvests now - in Europe. People here make a show of tightening belts by carbon budgeting but Nature is in positive feedback now, so budgeting is pointless at the levels it is being done.
I reckon there may be some attempt at powers pulling together when people realise that global warming & pollution aren't some future generation's problem; that in fact it's our problem, here and now. A few aired their views In this thread.

As I've said, I very simply do not agree that the world is experiencing "warming" that is actually caused by mankind's presence here. We have very long-term temperature data which shows long cycles which can be more-or-less superimposed upon one another. These date back to before "the industrial revolution." We have documented dates when, for example, the Thames River in London froze solid.
Thus, I very simply believe that "the climate system on this planet" is still something that we barely understand – if we actually 'understand' anything at all. I think that we are making both a very serious mistake and(!) a very political one if we assert that we can "save the planet" by various things such as altering human emissions of: CO2, nitrogen, or even CFCs. Much less "buying and selling 'carbon credits,'" which are effectively a license to pollute.
I actually find it very easy to say: "I don't know, and I suspect that you don't know, either." This planet is nowhere close to "running out of mysteries." I don't think that we are actually doing anybody any favors by structuring "world-wide political orders" based on this supposed "certainty of knowledge." After all, "eventually, Greta is going to grow up."

Change is occurring -- agreed?
Who cares about semantics when our Earth is becoming uninhabitable in areas prone to such a disaster for reasons we claim not to know? When we drive fellow creatures to extinction for lack of a quality habitat we have altered so we can make more money?
Naysayers will continue until Earth proves them wrong. Too late, by then.
Carry on as if everything is 'normal' you naysayers. One day, the Spiritual is all you will have to turn to because the Material will prove no good at providing a quality livable alternative habitat for humans, let alone other organisms.
What have we have put in motion for our planet and ourselves and all other living things?
Some know intuitively because we are connected to Earth. Others willfully disconnect. Whatever it is, it's not good.
Crisis Management is defined as method of only putting out the fires tall enough to reach your ass. Just how long does anyone imagining we know so little about Climate think we can continue to dump billions of tons of Carbon and CO2 into the atmosphere before their bums get uncomfortably warm?

As the old saying goes, "They have ears but do not listen . . . "
Denials of the Creator as evidenced with Evolutionary Theory (a religion in some academic circles) and Freudian psychology, to name but two, have deluded Humankind into thinking it/we can do it ourselves. And it all started with a lie. On a very basic level, liars are the real problem, beginning with politicians and corporate lawywers, IMO.
Vaya con Dios, business_kid and others who listen!
The exercise going on in Europe is effectively saying: "Oh we're listening to the science all right and things have to change. So we need agreement as we're working out the details..." Of course there is never agreement, because there is serious pain involved. So lack of agreement by 1% means the other 99% are off the hook BTW,the link I posted in post #410 is still live.
My business was Electronics, and 'thermal runaway' was a familiar concept. It refers to when an increase in temperature increases the rate of heating; it's a positive feedback loop, like audio feedback. The globe is a state of slow but definite thermal runaway, and nothing any one country can do will solve it.
OTOH, it's exciting yet challenging to be living at a time when Bible prophecy is being fulfilled. The ruining of the earth is undeniable. But when you see what else is prophesied to happen at the same time, the full implications of that prophecy hit home.
I would point out a technicality, BTW: Your 'old saying' was in Psalm 115:6, but Psalm 115:4-8 refer to idols, and not humans. But there are similar passages all around the scriptures on human indifference in the face of God's warnings - for instance Isa 6:10,11.
Before Irish tv (1960) people used to read more, and tell stories. My Dad was often asked to recount his 'Sheep & Goats' story. What none of us knew then was that Angora goats were raised in Israel, which at any distance looked very similar to a sheep. They might also be penned together. But the sheep knew their Master's voice and would follow him (John 10:3-5). The goats heard (or read) the same information, but it makes no sense to them. So that is how the sheep & goats were separated at Matthew 25:32(sheep & goats). The shepherd would call, but only the sheep would answer. It's the same today - look at the thread. And acknowledging fulfillment of Revelation 11:18 is just the beginning.
Anyhow, When Jesus was condemning the Goats, my (R.C.) Dad gave them one extra Apocryphal line that's not in the parable: "But Lord, WE DIDN'T KNOW!" The punchline in that version was the Lord's answer: "Well, you @£#%$&€! know now!" As King & Judge, he gets the last word .
I have been writing an essay and I guess i can use the arguments you have presented in my essay too. It's simply amazing. Can I?
Typical. I present evidence that shows THIS GENERATION is ruining the planet, and you don't care but you want to use them in your essay. Ruining the planet has huge consequences, but nobody cares, it seems. Yes, put them in your pointless essay if you want but point out the implications. The Bible prophecies that God is going to act against those ruining the planet.
