Since it is a roman era type of chess set. I am one of those that cruises pawn shops for deals also.

Thanks a lot. However, I'll use it to play chess by mail. What if I go to sleep and turn off the computer? I loose the position. So, the program has to allow saving the game. I had a program like that: chess.exe by Psion. With it you could play against the program but also between two humans. Now I don't have windows installed.
However I do have eboard and Xboard (they come with the slackware distro). I am told these programs allow playing in 2-player mode (human vs human). I have tried but haven't been able to find out the way.
