cheap shot!!
is it me? whats gone on since my brief 5 year vacation from computing? can any one be called a computer specialist now ......DAM? tell me what programer, sys administrator or teacher does not know of linux!! i have seen some petty dam silly things since jumping back on the ball. does this mean im an expert? i am seriously confused and upset by this. yes fare enough i am a newbie but i still know and have used the OS before! and since my return to computers i have already learned enough about windblows to keep me going for decades. it is linux that teaches us about computing. i have just started (well technicaly re-enrolled) in a diploma of info systems managment (administrator) and the first thing i have done is to secure a copy of linux. The first module in the course is MULTI USER SYSTEMS!!!!!! thats the very first thing they teach you. then i have to learn the stuf about the round robin process and what a cpu is, what does it do and how does it do it and what is a boot strap process how does memory work ect ect ect. i know i am having a big fat bitch but where are the standards? where is the institution, advisery or regulatory body that produces standards for institutions to use as a guide?

just an opinion :tisk:

Computing has gotton easy as hell over the past 5 years.

You don't have to know what a CPU is anymore in order to use a computer. its sad!

[securing the first post!]

DooFDooF_music_ 09-03-2003 06:48 AM

hmmm. i still think that the basis of computer know how is within the hard ware!

to think that you don't need to know how it works on the inside is like pretending to know how to drive a tank.....your faking it.

jon_k 09-03-2003 07:08 AM

Did you write it to be offensive, just a question.. cause I read it that way..

Anyhow... yeah, but my grandpa can use windows without knowing what a "harddrive" is.. let alone a "CPU" so.. erm, yeah. Computing is easy for people these days.

DooFDooF_music_ 09-03-2003 07:16 AM

not at all!.. i am just very confused about what has hapened since i left that many years ago. the same seems to be hapening every where (i do not take change very well at all except if it is for the better). yer your grandpa can operate a pc but it takes more than that (i think any way) to be considered a pro.

jon_k 09-03-2003 07:45 AM

Oh, well yeah... course it takes more then that to be a pro

but with how easy Windows 2003 is (have you seen how it is yet?)................ holy crap... I'll say 3 year olds will be able to get a microsoft certification by Windows 2010's release... it's insane

DooFDooF_music_ 09-03-2003 08:54 AM

yes i agree (windows realy does suck i have had to put up with xp until i get mandrake in the mail.....only one more day...argh) i have had my new computer now for...well a whole 2 months! and i got sick of windows 1 month ago. since then i have found a vast aray of distros and apps and software and and games!! HOLLY SHIT!! all for linux (breath breath) well you get the picture. yes that insanity only found in the windows OS comes at a heavy heavy price faster cpu's bigger graphics cards gigantic harddisk's..but fortunatly i live real close to manufacturers of this stuff and i have a friend in japan who will send me these things for hardly nothing but it is the principle of the matter. it is this click click mentality that will see less developed countries getting FUCKED over by microsoft. as far as my original post goes i will have to say i didn't realy think when i wrote it and in the past 24hrs i have gained a better idea of what is going on. thanks to of course the still thriving and generous linux community.

my opologies for my aragance

jon_k 09-03-2003 09:05 PM

damn you. i need a contact in japan...

sxa 09-03-2003 09:26 PM

I do need a contract with Japan also..

They have a Windows 2003?

For computer getting easier I think this is a good thing, the orginal poster says he does not take kindly to change.. for me I love change.. I know what a HD is and what a CPU is, hell I can put together a computer (as long as I put the RAM In right, my first time was hell :( )

Computers getting easier is good for the world, for those who are not geeks like you and me, well they can still use computers in their everyday life. Just like us geeks do, and even now, how easy Windows is there are people that still get lost. I am taking an advanced Computer Class, most of the people in their are in a higher grade then me, and they still get lost on the computer. Of course some of them HAD to take that class.. We use Mac OS X in their, which is good, I mean it does take from unix, I love to feel of using OSX..

To make a long boring story short, Windows and Macs are getting easier, and so are Linux machines.. I mean RH 7.1 and RH 9 are alot different, things got easier, and they will continue to get easier.. Yet while us 'pros' still find ways to design much more advanced things to keep our minds sharp, and to keep us from getting bored with two weeks of going over HTML, and how to use Word or OSX, and how to us OSX.. That was a crappy two weeks of computer class..

sure, typing a document may be easier.

but would you say bypassing a firewall and IDS to overflow a buffer on the latest apache webserver is easier? ;)

why did you leave for 5 years?

I would not know how to bypass a firewall and IDS to overflow a buffer on the latest apache webserver.. then again I have yet to need to do that, if I wanted to learn I would.. and if I learned how to do it then it would be easier.. and I think the methods of doing it will become easier..

DooFDooF_music_ 09-04-2003 01:46 AM

why i left for 5 years!
well my life was suffering due to my hobbie and i felt that the world was passing me by and i did not know shit about it. so i packed my bags and left for asia first stop japan then over to china then korea (either side) then back to japan then over to vietnam and mongolia ect ect ect then back home (i spent a great deal of time in japan) and then traveled heaps in my own country i stayed EVERY WHERE now im broke and extreeeeeeemly warn out and getting back into the "swing of things" as far as wanting contacts in japan go well i just have to say travel dude!! oh yer i still do not know a sigle word of japan or any other for that matter i still can't spell in my own language! i hung out with ex-pats most of the time. so there you have it years of not doing any thing in particular but i asure you....mass quantaties of alchohol was consumed...and my bank acount. now it is back to real world polotics i had to get a job (easy enough) and i did (if you consider not working for five years..well legaly any way...for five years it's pretty amazing)..... techy was it!..... and now im studying and working and getting real pleasure from doing it some times you just have to let go! oh yer i got my coppy of linux today!!!!!!! the mighty MANDRAKE is my chosen weapon.

sxa 09-04-2003 04:55 PM

I guess it was fun while it lasted? Of course I am sure I would get bored not having anything to do, and I am sure you had to have plenty of cash to do what you did.. 5 years away from life WOW! Then again maybe not WOW! I have spend that last 15years in my own world, and hell I am still living in my own Somewhat Freaky and Really Geeky World..

DooFDooF_music_ 09-05-2003 06:32 AM

money sux...but!
yer it does cost alot my savings were dried up by going over seas. but here at home we got something called "centre link" (government welfare) and i used that to get to around you would be amazed how far $350 a fourtnight goes well i do pay taxes and will do for most of my life so why not exploit them for a measily 5 years. share houses are the best resorce $50 a week for living 5 min from the beach!!! i would have been NUTS not to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sxa 09-05-2003 04:07 PM

Just so the welfare does not go to non-taxpayers who perfer to take our money and use it on drugs...

BTW: I don't know if I have said this before, and I might say it again because I am nuts but hey anyways to the point nice quote in your sig...
