CBT Direct Toughts?, reviews?
 

I have been receiving calls from CBT direct training guys, theyre offering me A+, Server+, security+ or linux+ and network+ training all for a $1000, it seems like a good deal, but I really dont know CBT direct, and it seems to good to be true.

Who is CBT direct?
What does anyone think of them?
Any reviews?

is infosec institute good at certification training?

what other programs or institutes would you guys recommend for various certification virtual or online training like security+, ceh, linux+ etc...?

I don't know about CBT direct training, but I did use the CBT Nugget training video for my Microsoft MCSE 70-293 test. It did help me understand DNS better than the Microsoft book, and I passed the test (I failed the first time) the second time. I believe they have a 100% pass guarantee so that if you fail, they will reimburse you for the test and/or their products. Another good study guide company I used was Transcender for the Microsoft tests. Transcender actually writes the Microsoft exams so you know that their study guides and practice tests will be very similar to the real Microsoft tests. I am assuming it would be the same with CompTIA exams.

Generally for my certifications I just use books. I only get books by the official company, like Microsoft Press. For my CompTIA exams, I used Sybex publishing books. Right now I am studying for my CCNA and I am using the official Cisco CCNA book.

I think certification means more in South America then in North America. Do they publish the training books and the certification tests in Spanish? Are the translations any good? Or is English the dominant language of technology?

As for future employment give some thought to what it is you want to do for the next 10+ years and will the skill that you learn today still be in use 10 years from now.

In the next 10 years I want to be in IS field, in fact Im studying the possibility to go to maryland and enroll in sans master of science in information security engineering in 3 or 4 years tops, ¿Will information security still be around in the next 10 years, I believe it will be, unless all data networks get shut down because of a world war 3 or armageddon ;).

I think certifications are more important in the US than here in Colombia.

About the english, well english will always be a reference lenguage for technology and IMO the most active IS groups and bulletins are written in english, again IMO translated books have a way to change what the author meant and become what the translator tought the author meant!

I actually dont know if certs test are translated, but I will find out.

Im interested in getting network+ and security+ certified, then become linux+ certified, just to start, Im ambicious and I know this requires lots of studying :study:, thats why Im looking for videos, and books, in fact I believe that getting books for self study is more important than anything but the good thing about videos and training kits is that sometimes they have simulations and virtual labs in wich I can practice on.

Bottom line I will buy books for self studying, Im just thinking if its worth paying someone to facilitate virtual enviroments for me to practice on like I believe most training centers do!

If I opt for self studying only with books I will post lots of questions here related to the cert im studying for, instead of paying a tutor! :D

I studied for both Network+ and A+ simply by using the books. I did not hire a trainer or tutor. Combined with my own on the job experience I was able to qualify for the Certs. There is one thing I would like you to know, certification exams are very expensive. Check out the Comptia site for and idea of what the exams will cover and study those subject areas.

Also when I took the exam the graphics were like basic bit maps of components. They should have at least tried to make more realistic graphics for the component identification section. I took my exams in 2002. So be prepared for things that my seem odd or arbitrary or out right tricky when taking the exams.

Good evening, I just signed up with CBT Direct and wanted to know if it matters where we get the coursework/training? I had just assumed that all that matters is that I pass the A+/Network + certification tests, correct?

I can't believe I signed up with this company before doing research. Any assistance you can provide I would appreciate it.

I used preplogic for my certification training and they were good, at least in my opinion.
